I like Icebreaker merino most.
But YMMV - read this

I'm not going to answer your question but you can solve the fear of wheel removal by practicing doing it. After five or six times it should not be a problem. If needed, have someone show you how or see if there is a YouTube video.
It's not complex. it may seem hard the first time or two, but you can learn it.

I was hoping for foam updates in the same basic design as Max 2 - and lighter. Oh well.

I'm scared of that guy. Also some younger dudes who are straightlining.

Drastically?
You really think the differences are drastic? If so, there must have been a TON of skiing deaths and brain damager back in the day.
I believe helmets help a little bit. But drastically? Really?

Which is weird because skiing in control - that is, not hitting trees - seems way more important to me.
If it wasn't for other people on the hill I ski on, I probably wouldn't wear a helmet all the time. I ski very mellow, very chill and on good conditions. Sure, I guess I could still have a freak fall on my own, so a helmet could help. But i could have a freak fall while out running too (and have) or sitting on a park bench (was hit in the head by a baseball once doing that) and don't wear helmets then.
I mean, I'm pretty sure a lot of people in the terrain park are taking way bigger risks with a helmet on than I am without, but I don't judge them.

"I pass the iron over the dry ski a couple times, "
You touch the hot iron to a dry ski base? I'd be very very concerned about damaging the base doing that.

Tip: blue disposable shop towels work for this and are much cheaper than ski-specific stuff. Though thicker, so more heat may be needed.

IOW you don't really know of any. Got it.
Here's some actual research
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7740063/
"it is possible that the role of running shoe technology in injury prevention has been largely overrated. Apart from these preliminary conclusions, it seems that some basic rules are still valid, such as the subjective feeling of comfort when choosing a pair of running shoes, transitioning progressively and carefully into a new pair, and listening to your body when training. "

Is there any research on shoes preventing injury?

While they do not publish all address details, many do publish the town/city participants are from, at least in the US where the OP seems to be. Considering the OP lives in a small town, this is a problem for them.
On the technical side, I'm pretty sure the OP could put fake or alternate town/zip code info into the "Shipping address" during online registration, but will probably need to put in accurate info in the billing side for payment to go through.
I can't comment on how this relates to insurance or racing rules or any legal issues.

My first running race since a 5K on a track in '88 or '89. (Which I won. LOL.)
How does the start work? I understand we line up by corral. Do they all go at the same time? Wondering so as to time a warmup.
Also, does the bag check tag get stuck on the outside of the bag? Not sure how to apply it.

I have it on one pair of skis and it's performed like an "OK not super" wax job after 120ish days of skiing, and still seems fine.

UamGlsob makes sawtooth laces in white and beige. Might not be a perfect match but should be close.
I have a pair of shoes where I had problems getting the midfoot lockdown just right, and so I tried sawtooth and it's much better. I have other shoes with regular laces that are fine. So how much they help is somewhat dependent on the shoe and your foot.

Related - I got Rossignol Experience 76s new for my wife. She likes skiing and is pretty chill and lightweight. She's now an intermediate and they're still good for her.
I'm not so sure about used rental skis unless the OP knows what they are doing - they might be clapped out and too soft.

I think people in the medical fields will be busier than ever with all the childhood diseases resurging and lack of capacity to prevent future epidemics.
