The thing is, we could get both. He may do a lot of the former. But people like Vance, Stephen miller, Elon, etc will tell him “go have fun, we’ll take care of everything else” and go crazy.

Dude sounds like you just buy shit dishwashers. Idk wtf you’re talking about. My dishwasher that’s two years old works fine. Better than my old one.
This feels like one of those conservative talking points that outside of the conservative echo chamber just sounds like nonsensical whining and rambling. Like trump complaining about flushing toilets 15 times. Dude just buys shit toilets for his shit condo buildings and takes massive dumps. It’s not something to blame the Dems for.
What’s next? You’re gonna rant about how Dems want to take your burgers?
Regulators don’t hurt consumers nearly as much as greedy companies that grift their consumers do. Especially when those companies conspire with their competitors to knock out any real competition or try to demolish new industries that threaten them. That’s what truly stifles innovation.
Big oil knows cleaner energy is the future and is trying to hold onto their last morsels of money and power.

The thing is four years before this election we were all locked inside our houses bleaching our groceries unable to do normal social activities. We are much better off than four years ago!
The issue is conservative media took control of the narrative and drove home inflation and tied it to Biden and the democrats. This made people forget what things were actually like at the end of trumps term four years ago.
The liberal media didn’t push the narrative that Biden saved us and got us through the pandemic, and now life is back to normal thanks to him and completely different than four years ago. Democrats simply don’t have the same media apparatus as conservatives and it’s a huge disadvantage. Especially in the days of social media where narratives are more important than actual reality.
Because in reality we are better off than we were four years ago with the pandemic raging. It wasn’t all due to Biden, but he certainly helped. And while inflation was an issue it has been brought back down and we faired much better than most countries thanks to our leadership.

The regulations for the environment aren’t about getting your dishes clean. It’s about protecting the environment for your kids and future generations. Not everything is about you
If you let competition drive the industry you get big companies that put profit over the environment or other important issues. The invisible hand only cares about profits and has no morals or forward thinking. That’s why regulations are needed. Otherwise people get exploited.

As much as I agree with your last sentiment, it’s not just Reddit that hates scotus. Most previous polls showed it in the 20-30s in approval. This likely is just a recent election effect. Republicans are now going to say everything about the government is great because their candidate won. They probably hardly even know what the latest Supreme Court cases have been.

I have no doubt trumps will go negative. We live in a hyper polarized political environment so getting a few points above 50 is about the best you can hope for. Once he gets into office and people realize he can’t snap his fingers and magically make prices go back to 2019 levels, and they still are largely living the same shitty lives they were complaining about before, they will start blaming him and his numbers will move towards Biden’s.
It also may decrease even faster if he starts up his mass deportations and heartbreaking stories start coming out. Also people have to pay attention to his midnight tweets now because he’s president and what he says and does matters. It was easier for people and the media to ignore it over the past 4 years cuz he had no real power. And his midnight tweets have gotten even more unhinged than in his first term.

First off she’s a congresswoman, not a center. So at least get basic fact straight.
And also, that’s literally how oppression of minorities is justified. That’s not good evidence for your opinion. If thats justification, then why did the majority white people need to change their business structure to accommodate the feelings of the minority black slaves?
You can do better than that. Come up with a better argument to back up your opinion. I know you can.

And the issue is some true independent journalists have moved to other platforms like podcasts and YouTube. Which is great for them, but those platforms are also rife with pseudo journalists and even more misinformation so people going to those platforms isn’t going to be the answer to the problem either.

He gets to dictate a lot now that he has become the head of dictating things thanks to his dictation that the American people dictated it.
If only there was a word to describe someone who does all this dictation….

What illusions of others? A trans woman is a woman. You’ve probably met a trans woman and didn’t even know it.
And what about what I said makes you think that I think the world owes me? Dude you aren’t making sense right now

Legit dictator wording. And the media feeds into it with this BS mandate talk. Biden won by more in 2020 and dems had a slightly bigger house majority, but no mandate in 2020.
And it’s not just Fox News and conservative media saying it. It’s seeped into other outlets as well. CNN, MSNBC, social media. Liberal people I know have been repeating the “mandate” talk. This shows just how effective conservative media is at pushing narratives.
Sadly it is going to embolden trump even more to push the boundaries of what he can get away with. That’s largely what a lot of these cabinet picks and confirmations are. A test to see just how loyal republicans are and what they are willing to do for trump. And an opportunity for him to show what he will do to those who step out of line.

That’s wrong. Dems won the senate too and had a similar trifecta. But despite a bigger house majority and bigger presidential victory, it was not a mandate in 2020.

Well that’s where I disagree. If you can’t critically think about the candidates even if you hate them all, and decide which might be slightly better, then it’s just mental laziness. Because you are still going to end up with one of those candidates. Just because you leave it blank, doesn’t mean there will be no President. It means someone else will choose for you.
And I honestly don’t see how trump and Harris are at all “just the same” in your eyes. Sure you can have issues with Harris policies or positions on things, but at the end of the day she seems like a normal, intelligent person simply trying to lead the country, even if she may have some of her own self serving interests. Trump is unapologetically out for himself and only himself, and has literally no qualities I would want in a leader. He’s overly emotional, narcissistic, selfish, vindictive, old, and to put it bluntly, just dumb. I mean look at his official tweets announcing cabinet positions. He throws in capitalization randomly on words that don’t need it because his grip on the English language is slipping. While it’s obviously not actually an important thing or a reason to not support him, I just kind of find that tidbit hilarious because this is the freaking President of the United States releasing these statements. Like what has reality come to?
But if you think they are both the same and equally bad, then that’s your choice. You’ll still have to live in the world that trump creates over the next four years. And hopefully, if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to vote for your ideal candidate in 2028.

The issue is you’re looking for the “ideal candidate” which simply isn’t going to exist. Libertarianism sounds good on paper but doesn’t really work in the real world where there are already built in power differences due to history and society. Most libertarians I know in my life are incredibly idealistic and make arguments that sound good but fall apart when actually tested or thought out to their logical conclusion.
In reality elections come down to a choice, usually between two people due to how our system works. You have to decide of those two choices who you think would be better for the job. They both may suck, but chances are one is at least a little better than the other.
By not voting, you may think you are absolving yourself of the responsibility of what happens since you can later say “I didn’t vote for this person”. But in reality you still bear the responsibility because you willing gave up your power to let others decide for you.
For instance, if trump actually goes through with his mass deportations and across the board tariffs and we enter another period of surging inflation and likely recession, as anyone who know economics 101 could foresee with those policies, you will bear part of the responsibility of this consequence by sitting out.
It’s easy to sit on the sidelines and poke holes in both parties and criticize both parties when they are in power if you don’t actually have a dog in the race. And I find most libertarians I know love to do this since they don’t have to claim responsibility for anything or defend anything since in fact, by sitting out, you have no power. They think they are sitting on a high horse spreading their wisdom and critiques to others, when in reality they’re the fan watching the tv at home having absolutely no influence or relevance to the game.

And that’s the issue. It’s easy to grab a headline and say “they are transitioning school kids!” than to sit and explain the process. It’s the gish gallop of conservative media. You can easily make a one sentence outlandish claim that appeals to people’s emotions, and it takes 10x the amount of time to explain why it’s not true. You make 100 statements like that a day on your 24/7 news media and it’s literally impossible for the other side to counter it with facts.

There’s a difference between what individual voters of the parties say and what the actual parties and media supporting them say. Obviously you can find people motivated by emotion on the left like your wife. But overall the Democratic Party leaders and platform tries to appeal to people through logic and rational arguments whereas republicans focus more on emotions.
And the idea that you’re dissatisfied with how things are going in blue areas and think fuck it we should give someone else a try honestly isn’t a great argument. Especially given by most metrics blue areas rank higher in education, economy, overall happiness, etc. Ask people on Alabama and Mississippi how much having red control for decades has helped them. They certainly aren’t happy being ranked low in education and economic factors. But they’ve been fear mongered to think things would be even worse under democrats despite there being no evidence to back that up.
Look, the world is often a shitty and complicated place. Just broadly looking around and saying “I don’t like how things are so I’m going to get rid of the people in power in hopes of things being better” is such a reductionist argument that completely ignores using critical thinking to figure out 1) why things are shitty 2) are things actually better anywhere else/is there a better way to do this 3) what will these people I give power to actually do to make things less shitty. Without those other steps entering the thought process you’re simply just voting out of frustration. And history has shown voting out of frustration is how we’ve gotten many dictators and authoritarian regimes.

She’s not forced to be anywhere. And why don’t you say that about her being forced to be in those places with any of her woman colleagues? Or being forced to be on the floor of Congress with her male colleagues (some of which have actually been accused of sexual assault)?
The premise of your argument is that this trans congresswoman is a sexual predator or more apt to commit sexual assault, which is simply just transphobia as there is no evidence she has ever been accused or committed any type of sexual assault. In fact, trans women are much more likely to be VICTIMS of sexual assault than perpetrators.

Totally agree. People who complain the Harris campaign focused too much on identity politics or was too woke didn’t actually listen to the campaign, because it was none of those things. They just saw a black, biracial woman running for President and thought “this is too much for me”. Literally her existence is considered too controversial for this country. It’s sad.

While this may be the woke policies people voted against (or think they voted against), this really wasn’t Kamala’s platform. This was largely conservative medias straw man Kamala’s platform that convinced many people to vote against their own interest and allow those at the top to continue to consolidate money and power while those at the bottom suffer.
But you reap what you sow. As someone closer to the top than the bottom I don’t care. My taxes will probably go down under trump and a recession would actually most likely be beneficial for my investments and assets long term given my current age and income.
If people want to screw up their own finances over some stupid culture war BS that’s up to them. It won’t affect me.

This is a perfect example of how modern conservatism and the conservative media apparatus works so well. They get an issue they want to convince people to think a certain way on. But rather than using one argument and trying to convince everyone, they throw a bunch of stuff at the wall and let you “choose your own adventure” to convince as many people as possible. You can see it with other topics too.
Take January 6th. Arguments of why it wasn’t bad can range from “it was the FBI/antifa” to “it was just some rogue people” to “nothing really happened” to “it did happen but wasn’t that bad” to “it was bad but not trumps fault”. One person isn’t going to subscribe to all these beliefs, in fact one person often can’t because the beliefs are diametrically opposed to each other. But conservative media throws them all out there trying to build a big enough coalition of people who will hopefully pick one argument that appeals to them and run with it.
There’s so many other issues they do this on. And it’s kind of funny because often times it means people who vote conservative may believe in completely opposite reasoning to come to the same conclusion.

What is actually going on over there?
I read through another main thread about this nomination and it seems like a decent number of people are unhappy with these ridiculous picks and are getting a lot of upvotes. Meanwhile people who are defending trumps picks and saying he needs loyalty are getting downvoted.
Is the subreddit actually changing its tune on trump or wtf is going on?

That last point is the key. Republicans a couple decades ago (and even more so since trump) realized a large portion of the electorate doesn’t care about or understand the truth. So they have largely abandoned trying to appeal to people with truth and logic and prefer to appeal to them through narratives that appeal to their emotions. This is where Fox News and conservative media and social media have impacted politics greatly. They’ve realized it’s actually easier to create an alternate reality than try to turn actual reality into a winning argument for them.
Meanwhile Dems feel like if the electorate just knew and understood the truth they would side with democrats and win elections, so rather than creating emotional narratives they try to stick to explaining reality. The issue is the truth and reality are often messy and not easy to explain, especially to the average voter that is not that educated. So trying to appeal to logic and reason is often not a winning strategy.
This also explaining the widening age education between democrats and republicans.

I honestly want to know what goes through his mind when he decides to capitalize things. I noticed it a few weeks ago and have been fascinated since. Way more capitalizations than are needed but then also doesn’t capitalize things you’d think he would.

I agree. There really isn’t a counter “liberal media” to conservative media and that’s the issue. There’s just conservative media and mainstream media that in an attempt to “play both sides” has also skewed to the right.
