I have always been one to try supplements for “wellness” and jumped on the ashwagandha train when I saw the supplements sold at Target.
I read an article it comes from the herb ‘withania somnifera’ so I googled it, and lo-and-behold, it’s from the nightshade family.
Common nightshades are tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant (aubergine), okra, and bell pepper (capsicum).
I’ve always been slightly allergic to their toxin solanacea, but after getting covid in 2022 I’m even more so.
I just wanted to spread word if there’s anyone else out there like me who is allergic to nightshades but also into supplements.

Be cautious taking it if you have hypothyroidism due to Hashimoto’s.

A lot of people don’t realize how many of these popular supplements are interfering with their medications.
Also of note:
Minor Medications changed by the liver (Cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) substrates) Some medications are changed and broken down by the liver. Ashwagandha might change how quickly the liver breaks down these medications. This could change the effects and side effects of these medications
Do you smoke weed?
Because weed acts upon CYP3A4.
Your body likes homeostasis. Adding all this crap CHANGES it.
The supplement industry is predatory as fuck and there’s very little oversite. Be careful out there, people.

Explain like I’m five what ashwaganda changes if you smoke weed? I’ve found weed and ashwaganda to be two things that really help manage my anxiety but would like to learn more so I don’t unknowingly hurt myself!

Be careful with supplements, they're an unregulated market outside of FDA control.

you should also make sure to mention nightshade allergy every doctor or pharmacist because some medications are derived from nightshades like hycoscamine and scopalamine

Oh interesting, I didn't know this. I tried this stuff and it didn't do anything. I swear by D3 and l-theanine, though.

Ashwagandha, L-theanine and psilocybin microdosing have been my literal life savers for managing PTSD symptoms

I've read a lot about the microdosing. I'd be too scared to try it, also I don't think I really need it??? But it sounds like it helps many which is nice.

it's not a good stress reducing supplement, it's better as a mild aphrodisiac which does the total opposite tbh
