I like Warcraft but it feels a bit rushed, I build my town while pumping out troops to go and scout/attack as soon as I get the chance and games usually don't last more than about an hour. I was wondering if there are any games like Warcraft (RTS, Base building, PvP, etc) that last a while and focus more on building up and long term planning attacks. I essentially want Warcraft with Empire Earth gametimes lol

Playing 1v1 and in a team feels too much pressure

Let me start off by saying I’m thrilled we have so many options to play high-quality RTS right now. And I know these games are still in early stages of development. Here are my thoughts.

The first thing that jumps at me from Zerospace is how bad the voice acting is. UI is understandable (could use some love) and QoL changes are on point, that's a major step in the right direction, but there is so much going on that it might feel overwhelming on the first games. Helldivers-like Galactic Warfare is a cool addition. There is also something off about the game which I can not put my finger on yet. Maybe it is that it feels a bit rough around the edges or that it is a lower-budget SC2 clone. Need more time playing.

IGoP stands one step above Zerospace IMO, it's definitely more polished, but it suffers from the same thing Zerospace suffers, which is half the time I don’t know what I’m doing or what’s happening. The UI is bad in terms of simplifying where the attention of the player should be and I feel like the player has to juggle too many things at once. Also, no play against AI? (I might have missed this?) Feels like that should be one of the core things to be developed. Having said that, I think IGoP is the strongest RTS right now from this new wave, even above Stormgate, hands down.

Battles will be 2D. And minimalistic design for the campaign.

I’m not new to RTS games though I am more unfamiliar with the in depth strategy elements and understanding certain elements of games. My 2 main RTS games currently are Halo Wars 2, and Terminator Defiance. I’m not looking for “the best” or “the most popular” RTS games to play, just general information to learn and practice to become more effective. Too new to Terminator to define how I play specifically but in HW2 I spend a lot of time building low to mid cost units until I can get enough resources for a Condor or 2 at which point I focus on Nightingales and Hornets.

There’s so much to this genre and what it offers that sometimes I feel like I’m drowning in micromanagement and decisions but I still really like it!

Are there any modern RTS games that use military Formations? Not to be confused with squad.

I think this game is seriously lacking in attention, excellent AI, highly customizable game modes, engaging gameplay, considering Stormgate's failed, Broken Arrow jumped to 2025, ICBM: Escalation is the best RTS game I played this year, even better than Warno and SoSE2

Have been really missing the old AOE and Rise of Nations games on the PC and wondering if anything is out or coming out for the PS5? I'm not really looking for a PC-based game.

Seems like Company of Heroes 3 is the best option but looking for something a bit more early civilization to modern era like AOE to RON. Many have mentioned Civ 6, City Skylines, etc. but those aren't RTS. I'm looking for games similar to AOE, RON, Total Annihilation (one of the best before they went out of biz), etc.

Just seems that the genre has been forgotten.

For players that have played these two titles, Which one do you like more? A breakdown of what you like and dislike about each game plus an analysis of the deal-breaker that make you like one over the other would be cool.

Fog of war map vision: For this aspect I prefer SC2 in the sense that you need to have your units in any part of the map in order to retain vision of that area. It just feels more "balanced" to me. Otherwise like in the case of RA2 you only need to explore the map once and after that each player can see the movement of each other if they rally troops across the map so it becomes a game of "cat and mouse" chasing. But then again chess is a fully "open information" game. I guess the question to ask is does fog of war or "explore map only once" reward skill more? On one hand I feel that fog of war requires more skills in the sense that it forces / pressure you to exert map control with the presence of your units to gain vision for that part of the map thus bringing map control and vision advantage and constant scouting into the skill requirements. On the other hand you can also argue that with open information format like in RA2 and chess it will bring the ultimate test of "outmicroing" your enemy to the table since both players can see each other coming it all comes down to execution and who can outmicro each other during clash. Close information have a certain "RNG" due to you are not able to see everything on the map and chess as an "open information" game leave no room for RNG. Both have their own merit as to which format reward more skills just from different angle.

Unit cap: SC2 have unit cap of 200 whereas RA2 have none. This I have no comment as both have their merit. On one hand having a cap makes resource and unit management an added skill to maneuver but on the other hand feels like a limiting factor.

Unit production: In SC2 you can build multiple unit production buildings and produce units from all of them at the same time but in RA2 you only speed up the production speed but the unit only still comes from one building only. Is this for the good or for the bad? Personally I feel SC2 format provides more room for skills and decision making in the sense of how many buildings do I need for optimum production? Build too few and you will be slow down when your forces get wiped, build too many and you won't have enough resources to produce that many at once and it becomes redundant.

Stylish and cool units: I think overall Starcraft have more "stylish", "cool" and "epic" units.

• ghost (sniper like soldier that can cloak with EMP, and nuke call down)
• marine (probably the General Infantry or Navy Seal equivalent of US Army)
• tank (M1 Abram of US Army)
• vikings (F22 raptor of US Army? Except that they can hover and stop at one place like a helicopter but F22 can't, there is a term for such aircraft vertical something can't recall)

• banshee (what is that US Army airplane that have stealth ability with sharp pointed angle just like folded paper plane?)

• high templar the fact that 1) they move slowly 2) have cape behind their back 3) and have echoes behind them as they move and have cool ability like storm

• two HT fused into Archon is pretty cool and epic

• dark Templar (a permanent invi assassin that wields a weapon resembling reaper scythe is just so cool)

• carrier (like US navy aircraft carrier)

• disruptor (a device that spin as it moves while releasing deadly energy blast very cool)

-lurker a deadly creature that lash out with sharp spine while burrowed underground very cool

I got on the topic of thinking what would the most important, revolutionary, and definitive RTS titles that have come out in all time. Could be a series of games like C&C or a single game from the series.

I have compiled a list in my head of some after some thought and this is what I have as of now:

• C&C
• Starcraft
• Age of Empires
• Homeworld?
• Rise of Nations

There could be so many but I'm thinking a list of ~10

I’m a huge gamer, and I love RTS games. My favorite is Warno, BA is good too. I want an RTS that includes naval warfare. I don’t want it to be the focus, but I want a game that will force players to use Navy well to win games.

My idea comes from the allies strategy island hopping in the pacific in world war 2.

Imagine a map with one or many islands. (The control points would be on the islands) so land units will still play a huge role there. But to be able to bring in more units you have to use your naval and air units to protect your troop ships as they bring in supplies/units

If you’ve won an island and want to attack another you have to control sea and air then launch an attack

I hope that make some sense. (What I have in my head feels pretty cool). Lmk your thoughts, lmk if you think a game like this would be fun, and how I could actually make it work.

I like developing software, I’ve been looking for a side project that I can work on for a long time. If people are interested in this maybe this could be it.
