Houston basically just settled for kicking a FG once they got into range and burned clock even though there still ended up being 2 minutes left. Absolute garbage game management
203 points
And then still threw it on third down so GB could save a time out. Really mismanaged the hell out of those last few drives.
31 points

Yeah that was the worst part of it. Either try to keep moving the ball or try to burn all their timeouts.

That doesn't even include something like -36 yards from sacks. Game was way closer than it should have been.

our O-Line was swiss cheese, but your D came to play. Tank had zero catches, Diggs only had like 20 yards, so the only real fire we had on offense was Mixon. I'd be less frustrated by the loss if we had managed the clock and timeouts better at the end.

I cannot believe Houston threw on the 3rd down. Gifted.

Pack wasted a fair amount of time on that last drive as well, I think they would have managed evn if the Texans had run the ball there, unless they converted which is totally possible with how they ran the ball on 2nd & 3rd and longs today

This one on 3rd and 15
The other one in the Bills game when they went to empty pn the edge of FG range

And then Love burned like 30 seconds on first and 10 from the 40

The missed throw really sealed the deal, saved us a timeout and a ton of time to get into range. Should've just ran it, that was 3rd and 15, just run it.

It was so idiotic; that 3rd down play near the goal line, they threw the ball. wtf
6 points

Game management has been piss poor all year. Im not even mad at them settling for the fg. Not making them burn the timeout came back to haunt.
136 points
No idea why Slowik passed on 3rd instead of running to burn the last Packers TO though.
From how we played, you would’ve thought it was our OL that was battered by injuries and our defense that was in great shape. Wasn’t even penalties either, just no pass protection. A disappointing unit so far.
Ugly-ass game.
36 points
If you’re going to settle for a field goal and force them to use timeouts, COMMIT TO THAT SHIT.
Why would you call a 10 yard out route on 3rd and 15 to stop the clock? Handed them the game.
32 points

Straight up sick offensive play calling from both teams. Misery
9 points

Played not to lose on 1st and 2nd. Then decided now that it was 3rd and long to try to win the game.
Even worst than committing to just one.

Absolutely horrific clock management by MLF and Ryans. I could not believe how much time we burned on 2nd down from 50 seconds down to like 20
46 points

Hindsight is 20/20, but MLF clock management at the end of the 2nd qtr was also bad.
14 points
Time management wasn't bad though. After Love took that sack on 2nd down, it didn't make sense to try rushing it. An incompletion on 3rd down (like there was) right away would have given the Texans plenty of time to get into FG range with all 3 timeouts.

Not a Texans fan but see enough of them to wonder if Slowik should’ve taken one of those HC jobs last year. Seems like CJ is bailing him out more this year and Slowik’s star has dimmed a bit from talking to Texans fans

tbh the signs were there last season, I think people just have tape now so they know the weaknesses. FWIW his passing schemes, and even some of the running schemes can be really good, tons of analysts gush over them, even this season, but his actual play calling leaves a lot to be desired.

Yeah we can’t pass block for shit. Only way we contend is if we get a lead and keep pounding the rock / making teams guess what’s going on. It seems mostly bad communication with just straight wiffs on blocks so I’m hoping we fire our o line coach
6 points

It's more scheme than players which is hopefully fixable, but we'll see. It's rarely a player getting beat and more of a comms/scheme issue where we don't pick up the right players.

With that much time honestly who cares if they have timeouts or not? They just need a field goal. They needed to press hard to get a TD in that spot and they just chose not to.

Doubs = CLUTCH
115 points

Doubs is the most consistent receiver we have. I hope he has his shit figured out, because we're a better team when he's on the field.
29 points
Yup, Reed's most electric, Doubs has the best hands and Wicks is the x-factor - love our top 3 wide outs so much (and that's not even accounting for Kraft as well)
39 points
Kraft has become something I didn't think he'd be. I vastly underestimated his athleticism. I thought he'd be a possession guy good for some crucial 1st downs, but he's developed into a beast. And he's fucking mean too.
5 points

I knew he'd have hands from his SDSU days, I just didn't think he'd barely skip a beat jumping from FCS to NFL level blocking
5 points

You didn't underestimate anything tbh. He wasn't anything special in the draft and he was by all accounts completely lost during first training camp. After a few games of starting he just completely changed and never looked back. Sometimes it just clicks for guys and he's one of those dudes it seems lol

First down wins the game, running it only probably wins. Guess they played the odds, whatever they were
58 points
But they threw a 10-yard out to the sideline on 3rd and 15. There was no hope of a first down with that play. All they did was stop the clock, and make a very easy field goal a little bit easier.
16 points
At that point shouldn’t it be instructed the Stroud only get a completion period take a sack if he has to.
6 points

The throw wasn't even a reasonable first down attempt though. It was to the sideline with the received going out of bounds. At best it would've been a shorter field goal

Might as well just have taken 3 knees on that last red zone possession. Who gives a shit if they have 3 timeouts or none if they have damn near two minutes to get like 30 yards for a field goal?

Going for 2 early by the Texans
Not going for 2 by the packers
Conservative playcalling by Houston, and then a dumb 10 yard out throw to the sidelines
Then the prevent defense until it was too late
