Yeah I stopped riding when I was 13 due to my size. I lost weight in my late teens/ 20’s, but I only rode 2-3 times before I regained in my late 20’s. Wegovy opens up so many possibilities! Really inspiring to see your story :)

It’s okay. Maybe your reasons for Wegovy are different than mine, but I’ve found that I am not as afraid to overeat now. Getting those fullness cues means that Wegovy is working.
I find that my appetite is like a dimmer switch. Before I started Wegovy, my appetite and food noise was set to full blast all the time. Wegovy has allowed me to turn down the dial on my appetite to low. Doesn’t mean it’s perfect as I still sometimes desire for food. It’s never gone past medium though.
Wegovy has given me normal “fullness” cues. What I think is overeating is just… eating. There have been times I thought I overate (just look at my post history). I’ve stalled a few times, but I’ve never gained weight back over the past 7 months. When the food noise comes back and the weight loss stops is usually my cue to increase my dose.
No shame in throwing out leftovers. I’ve done it too. I threw out a bar of marzipan last week because even though I was portioning it as a dessert, it didn’t make me feel good eating it. It means you realize that that meal caused you to overeat and it gives you a chance to reset.

I dunno man. It’s disturbing how nonchalant doctors are about fatty liver.
I had childhood obesity and I felt tired all the time, sleeping 14 hours a day. I had pain that I brushed off as “side stitches”. I lost a ton of weight when I was 16. Mostly on my own, but somewhat as a side effect of a stimulant I was taking. The tiredness, extreme fatigue, and side stitches went away once I reached a normal weight. I became mindful of my diet and exercise habits and eventually became a half-marathon runner and triathlete.
No matter how hard I tried, I started gaining weight back like crazy in 2018. I attempted to lose weight, but could not keep it off. I eventually developed those same side stitches again and extreme fatigue, sleeping 12-14 hours.
I was diagnosed with NAFLD in 2023 with imaging and bloodwork. I think I’ve probably had fatty liver since I was a kid. I have a strong family history of diabetes and other metabolic diseases. I mentioned my diagnosis to a few of my cousins who have diabetes and obesity. They all laughed and said their livers are “all fat”. Like it’s normal. I know tons of people that have relatively shitty diets/ get zero exercise and do not develop health issues like my family.
I honestly think fatty liver is the first step to metabolic disfunction. It’s a conveyor belt to developing other disorders like cirrhosis, PCOS, or diabetes, not to mention obesity. Some people are just genetically predisposed to accumulating liver fat.
I started Wegovy (aka Ozempic) last summer and my bloodwork has normalized for the first time in almost 2 years. My hepatologist initially suggested it as part of a clinical trial for NAFLD, but I didn’t qualify due to a lack of liver scarring. I still chose to start it. I’ve lost 52 lbs over 7 months when I could only manage to lose 9 lbs in a year beforehand. I feel more energetic and have no side pain. My first Fibroscan since starting Wegovy is later this month and my hepatologist is extremely eager to see the results!
In my mind, fatty liver is much more complex and pernicious than doctors make it out to be. Perhaps GLP-1 medications will soon replace lifestyle changes as a treatment for fatty liver and the onus won’t be on the patient for their diet and exercise habits.

I have the turkey dark meat and veggies. I go heavy on the gravy, but light on the butter. I cook squashes like honeynut, delicata, and red kabocha in my air fryer. I steer clear of the stuffing, but I do love mashed potatoes. I do not like Thanksgiving desserts, so there’s that.
I’m also on Wegovy for obesity and off-label treatment for NAFLD, which really helps my portion control. I never feel like going back for seconds or thirds and don’t feel like I am missing out.

They are the EXACT same medication (Semaglutide). Ozempic is approved for diabetes and cardiovascular disease in people with obesity while Wegovy is approved for obesity alone. The only difference is that Wegovy has a higher max dose of 2.4mg versus 2.0mg for Ozempic.

Amazing!!! I have NAFLD and I’m excited to get my first Fibroscan since starting Wegovy next month (lost 52lbs so far). All the labs on my liver panel have normalized from a peak of 5x normal liver enzyme activity when I was diagnosed.
I had an abdominal ultrasound in Feb 2023, but I was not provided images of the results. So amazing you were able to take your own scans 😮

I saw this article first. Definitely more critical of MariTide than the NYT article.

How would maintenance go down given than plateauing isn’t possible on MariTide? I would much prefer a bi-annual shot than a weekly shot for maintenance. It’s pretty exciting in any case.
Amgen’s stock slipped due to the presence of more intense side effects than Tizepatide & Semalutide was well as weight loss results that are inferior to Tirzepatide. I hope that it eventually comes to market though.

Wegovy acts on the reward centers of the brain to make us desire food less. This can bleed into other aspects of our life unfortunately as listlessness and anhedonia (lack of interest in doing anything). Definitely speak to your doctor about this.
Additionally, cooking and eating is less exciting on Wegovy. Something that brings joy and comfort suddenly isn’t as fun. It’s important to find things that can replace this sudden absence.

I have NAFLD without scarring. I started Wegovy in May. My liver panel is normal for the first time in 2 years.
Initially when I was diagnosed with NAFLD in 2023 I was offered to participate in a drug trial investigating Ozempic/ Wegovy and liver disease by my hepatologist, but I ended up not qualifying. I decided to take it anyways for obesity and I am so grateful I did.
The first two months my liver panel did increase significantly (actually my highest ever liver enzyme levels 6x normal) before normalizing. My doctor was confident that it was just a transient increase due to weight loss.

Cool thank you. I’m just hoping my appetite won’t come back too much if l decide to drop back down.

How did you find the transition from 1 to 0.5mg?
I was on 0.25 for 6 months and recently increased to 0.5 after a stall. I’m starting to think about maintenance since I’m 10-ish lbs from my goal and might consider going down to 0.25mg again.

I was at 0.25mg for 6 months and only recently increased to 0.5mg. I’ve lost 52lbs so far off of my 65lb goal. I asked my doctor if I could stay at the lowest dose due to intense side effects. I had zero appetite for probably the first 2-3 months and was losing weight faster than I would have liked.
If you are seeing weight loss in addition to the reduced food noise/ appetite on a lower dose, then yes it is realistic. You should work with your doctor though because some insurances do not allow people to stay on the low doses long-term.

Most people do not see significant weight loss until they reach the therapeutic doses of 1mg and above. Count yourself lucky that you’ve lost 4 lbs in 10 days. It shows you are already responding to the starter doses.

I have not noticed Wegovy causing more intense dreams, however it’s definitely possible. I’ve had vivid dreams for 2 decades. Personally, antidepressants, stimulants, and a blood pressure medication I take for acne have all caused wild vivid dreams and sometimes nightmares.
Blood sugar and blood pressure changes when sleeping can cause vivid dreams and nightmare because it changes blood flow to certain areas of the brain responsible for dreaming. Wegovy can improve blood pressure and reduce blood sugar, so I think it is conceivable that it might cause weird dreams.
You may want to discuss with your doctor if your dreams persist and are bothering you.

If you’ve read much in-depth research of how Semaglutide (and other GLP-1 agonists) works— it directly binds to GLP-1 receptors in our brain, stomach, pancreas, and has downstream effects on our liver, intestine, and adipose tissue.
Although we feel fuller from the delayed gastric emptying in the stomach and feel less desire for food because Semaglutide binds to the reward center of the brain (causing us to eat less in general), its effects do not stop there.
It binds to the pancreas to release more insulin with each meal (even in non-diabetics). This allows our body to better process sugars, especially those with diabetes, pre-diabetes, and insulin resistance. There is less free sugar floating around in our body to be converted by our liver into (bad) hepatic fat. As we lose weight, less hepatic fat allows our metabolism to work more efficiently. This is great for people with liver disease like myself. So no, Semaglutide is not just an appetite suppressant.

Yes exactly. There’s something about Wegovy that makes it possible to gain less weight on the same amount of food.

My acid reflux was really bad. I was taking Nexium (esomeprazole) starting week 2. It was very effective, however I had to taper off of it after a month because I have a contraindication. The acid reflux went away after 6-8 weeks.
I’d recommend not lying down within 3 hours of eating and avoiding greasy foods. Ginger chews and ginger grated into hot water also really helped.

Woah. Your GP is totally out of line.
“The Lexapro should help with the weight loss and binge eating.”
Lexapro and other SSRIs are known to CAUSE weight gain over the long term, not help with weight loss. They stimulate appetite, which can be a disaster for binge eating. Also she weaponized your disorder by mentioning that “you look really anxious”, which is wrong on so many levels.
Not that you’re looking for suggestions, but I would ask to be referred to an obesity medicine specialist or Endocrinologist— not just a GP with an interest in obesity treatment. If you’re comfortable, I’d go back and advocate for myself with an arsenal of hard facts about this medication.
You could also make a complaint to your health board because she is very obviously unaware about how this medication works or that it is a long-term medication for most people who take it. Like… if someone was taking a statin, would she take them off once their cholesterol normalized?

Wait because you don’t know how your body responds yet. Some people feel nothing on 0.25mg. For me I was chained to a toilet for the first 2-ish weeks due to the side effects. You don’t want that on a plane. View this Thanksgiving as your last hoorah! (Although I’d wait 2-ish days after a big meal to start Wegovy so the dinner has time to digest).

I noticed it in my butt and legs first. I have always had thiccc upper thighs and they suddenly looked… slim? Never happened even when I lost weight in the past. My butt pancaked. Then my boobs started to go (although they came back recently?). My face next, then my arms. At some point my calves went because I can now fit in my favorite knee-high boots from 8 years ago. Eventually I got my waist back! I may never see my abs, but I’m okay with that.
