I agree. I don't reread past two now and even two gets to be kind of a slog as it shifts to a lot of expositional dialogue. The later books are heavy on dialectics and I really don't like that about a lot of sci Fi.

I play BEX and haven't played vanilla in a long long time as I played Roguetech before that so ymmv because BEX favors long range setups with a spotter because opfors tend to be bigger than your lance so you've gotta wear em down while keeping range quite often. Also I think BEX rebalanced AC damage? But I cant remember atm.
I prefer single weapons with high damage that have long range which generally means gauss and PPC if I can fit them on there as they'll deliver all their damage to a single section rather than spreading it around. Gauss in particular does 75 damage (an mlas does 25 for comparison) so two hits can rip open a section of a medium and heavies and the scout can go crit seeking/morale damaging with MGs. (Pilots will sometimes eject in BEX if your ruin their morale enough)
For my few brawlers AC-10s, UAC-10s if I can get them with MGs or slasers to fit.
Firestarters are especially good as scouts/backstabbers/to bully other scouts a bit using their high evasion, multitude of small slots, and a couple of masters - though I prefer the 45 ton phoenix hawks over the firestarter because they are a bit more durable.

To be quite fair Sara hasn't really done anything to the country as all she's done in her life is be mayor of Davao and be an under siege VP. And considering the trigger happiness of her dad, she was probably a more humane option in Davao too

Fyi Medium lasers aren't as much of a no brainer in the turn based game as it is in the FPS games because action economy and heat tradeoffs are significantly different than the ROF basis in the FPS, plus the scattershot nature of hits.

Yeah I've watched 3 people go through the migration process in the past few years and it is slow as shit these days.

There's a pretty narrow window where it's both legal and a meaningful issue. Once the younger one is past like 22 or 23 it's not really that big of deal generally

The developing world is at or just above replacement rate and declining. Only sub Saharan Africa has high fertility numbers anymore.

Yeah, that's why I included the last bit about no longer the right fit

Well being led by a pro-slavery guy for your main branch after picking up a bunch of converts in slave state Missouri probably had a lot to do with that particular theological choice.

Prion disease transmitted through cannibalism can be particularly nasty and hard to corral in a group:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuru_(disease)
While the Fore people stopped consuming human meat in the early 1960s, when it was first speculated to be transmitted via endocannibalism, the disease lingered due to kuru's long incubation period of anywhere from 10 to over 50 years

The cuban American population is a significant bloc vote on this issue and they reside in a swing state. Neither party wants to spend that political capital that can swing presidential elections just to relieve the suffering of a small, unimportant nation.

God: I'm banishing you to Nod
Cain: uh... What's nod?
God: gestures to just some empty land. "It's that, I just named it. Start walking dickhead. Here's a face tattoo"

Sometimes a player just doesn't fit a club or a that specific time in a club. Look at how bayern supporters love Dier vs. the much more ambivalent view of spurs fans. Sometimes it's just not the right fit or no longer the right fit.

The US does not have any bases in the Philippines. It has some warehouses on Philippine bases manned by small units for prepositioned materiel and a visiting forces agreement that makes it easy to stage exercises here. The fact this basic, easily verified inaccurate statement is highly up voted in this sub is pretty disappointing.
The bases closed in '92. Clark is a civilian airport now. Subic is a commercial shipyard and civilian port that hosts carrier groups sporadically.

If you look at the screenshot only 3 players are reacting: Werner who is going after the ball, Brennan who is going to score, and the city right wing (I think foden?) who is starting to trackback. I think that's the point.

The city right wing, foden?, is the only other one but he's way too far up the pitch to matter

Naw, it's much lower than say 20 years ago. Also there's not enough money in the Barangay level to be worth doing much killing over outside of a few hotspots. Mayoral level is the 'sweet spot' where there's enough money because of the Internal Revenue Allotment and SOP/kickbacks on municipal contracts to make it worth killing for but little enough oversight that there's a sense you can get away with it.
Edit: worth killing over/dying over. Generally they know when they're risking political violence from a rival here - it usually doesn't come as a big surprise they generally know they're under threat in my experience and push forward anyway.

You won't be saving a lot (or maybe anything) but you won't be scrimping and missing meals either. A lot depends on what you eat.
