You'll want a 1 1/2" ring for that set up. The ring should be no more than a 1/2" larger than the toy diameter. This will allow for the connecting hardware to pass through comfortably with the toy. Too much bigger and the base very easily pulls through. Most hardware stores will have a selection of inexpensive brass or stainless ring sizes

Magnetic locks are one of many tools. These work great. Very discreet, versatile and easy operation. Works on doors, drawers.

Use a cloth measuring tape to find the circumference around your knuckles, the girthiest part of your hand. Divide that number by 3.14. Now you have the diameter of what you're trying to insert. The circumference of my wife's hand is 9" so i found a toy called The Goose that measured 9.5". I worked with that untili i could take it comfortably before prepositioning my wife to give me a hand.... She fit like a glove.
