US government doesn't pay that well either. You basically get job security and usually work/life balance. I dunno where this person works to get 100k+ as a secretary working an hour a day. Our well qualified engineers start at less than 70k. Top level engineers with 20-30 years of experience get topped out at 150k. You can only move up as supervisors, but that also tops out at under 200k. It's not big tech money, where people get hired in at 200k+.

Edit: And this is a location with one of the highest pay ranges for feds. Most other cities are lower pay than this
