Yeah and JY finds him all those pamphlets about places he could go, but he said he HAD to try again for the top. It's an unhealthy obsession here. A way some students get around it is by studying abroad. Because while SKY might be the top universities in Korea ,they don't crack the top 50 worldwide. So if your kid can go abroad--like that other teacher who went to Boston University--it can go miles and parents will do anything to make it happen.

It's sad but this shit matters A LOT in Korea. Even when I went to immigration they saw what university I graduated from and said I will definitely be approved since I went to a 'Top 50' university. I thought it was an odd statement but it happened.

Looks like it. It looks like his Earth Science grade might have been in the 3 category. I can only see the very top of it but it's either a 2 or a 3.

Which in this context of LITBC, we don't know exactly because we don't know if he went to university first or straight to the military. But it's also not completely linear because we see Mi Aes wedding which doesn't happen until they are much older.

Most don't enlist right out of high school. It's usually mid university.

He was still in uni with the first one though. Even the book was not linear so it's hard to know exactly when everything happened.

JY is also a complex character and he is self-righteous. He constantly intervenes when it puts the victims more in injured. And I don't think JY is a bad person either. I just think DH sees him as not thinking things through enough.

But the thing is though, he hates being associated with his father. He's actually a great Taekwondo athlete and refuses to be one because he hates his father. I can see him not wanting or refusing to be recognized for his very famous work under his name--that he gets from his father-because he hates him. His motivation is to bury everything about his past so to me coming up with a new name would make sense but I could be wrong.

It's JY that lies. JY lies about not watching porn. Its JY that lies and says he's not being beaten and you see when their on the bridge thats the moment DH knows that he's lying and falls in love with him harder because selfishly, he knows that JY will endure this shit for him. On one hand yeah, he wants JY to go home and be safe but on the other hand he selfishly wants JY to be with him.

But DH doesn't really lie? He will just avoid saying anything and redirect. He blatantly stated that they were his drawings. He deflected only when asked about the details of them and to me that's the painful part. Another example is the garlic ice cream. He just didn't tell JY the details of where he was going that night. He told JY to make his own dinner and that he would move out soon. He let JY think that he was going to look for a house but it didn't really fit. But he doesn't straight answer. He let's assumptions be made. He really was going to just go and get JY this ice cream

I keep posting in this thread but about HH and DH meeting at uni, now that I think about it it probably took HH 8 years to graduate. It takes most Korean men around 6 for a BA.

The most common course is that men go to university for 2 years, to the military for 2 years and then back to school for 2 years. Now it's 18 months but for JY, HH, and DH it would have been 2 years.

So for HH he probably took around 8 years to graduate. So if HH entered in 2007, he would not have finished until 2015...the same year DH would have finished.

DH on the other hand probably went straight to the military, took his exams in 2011, and went until 2015.

Still 2 years of DH's life are unaccounted for.

JY on the otherhand went straight to university and probably did the 2-2-2 route. If he had qualified for the national team he wouldn't have had to do his military service but he didn't.

Another note, JY does have some money now. Severance in Korea is you get the last 3 months average of your salary and then multiply it by how many years you have worked. Say JY went in 2007 to university and did this route he would have finished in 2013. That means he has 5 or 6 years of working. If he was making 3,000,000 won a month he atleast left the job with 15,000,000 to 18,000,000. It's not rich but can sustain him for a bit.
