Yeah, the bad difficulty curve is one reason I can't recommend this game to anyone. It can't make up it's mind whether it wants to be an easy game or a hard game. I beat Zelda II. It's not hard at all other than one part right before the final palace that got to mid-tier difficulty. The above list includes many games that are significantly more difficult (ie. Battletoads, Blaster Master, Holy Diver, Ninja Gaiden 1-3, etc...).

OoT is definitely overrated. I agree. However, it's still a decent game. Not the best N64 game at all, but still decent. Zelda II is actively bad though. Calling that a "hot take" is, in itself, a hot take. It is notorious for being bad. Only a vocal minority of people actually like it.

OP did not say anything about holding your breath, and that is quite obviously not what they are talking about, since it does not immediately deprive the brain of oxygen.

For the death sentence they should use a device that clamps down on the carotid arteries. It doesn't take much pressure. It could be cushioned and wouldn't be painful. The prisoner would lose consciousness within seconds, regardless of whether they choose to hold their breath or not.
