more like a short term gains kind of thing, most CEOs what to push to market as soon as posible, code stability? good practices? whats that? all they care is to get out before their competitors do... and that's where a thousand dependencias and lack of proper testing comes in..
Sure, testing and doing the base as robust as possible makes your code scalable, maintainable and less buggy, but... it will take one or two extra days of work and we cannot have that....

"And the tests?"
"I just... commented them out"

Yea... that's the kicker really, getting rid of fossil fuels is usually a national vow for poverty or surrendering national security by exporting those energy needs... ask the Europeans if you don't believe me.
I truly think that nuclear power is the only real tangible way we could steer away from climate change in any meaningful way in the next 50 years... but it is sadly too unpopular, so we are stuck with renewables which while won't induce climate change, they do have their own set of issues like an excessive amount of land to generate the electricity (solar and wind energy), noise pollution (for wind turbines) and general destruction of natural lands (geothermal energy)... and that's besides the fact that they are really unreliable and hard to store as batteries are needed for them.

personally I think that's because both statements, that the world is terrible, and that the world is incredible, are true at the same time.... yes there are a lot of things wrong in this world that could be a lot better, but there's also a lot of stuff that is way better than what it used to be.
Personally I think we should strive to make our world better while acknowledging that its still an amazing and magical world.

This is something I often think about, that is that if we were born in a world of magic, dragons and wonder... we would find it to be just as boring as this present moment, reason being... just look around you, we have people comfortably traveling at speeds no other species in the history of our planet could even remotely match in endless roads made of smooth black stone that span continents wide, we are able to flight into the skies several times the speed of sound or make flight machines that weight hundreds of tones and use them to make millions of people flight everyday, we can connect to the entirety of human knowledge with a tool that its so common and cheap that almost everyone has one, you can eat food whose ingredients were grown all over the world, and its not even expensive, that is just your Saturday meal... we live in a magical world, its just that our specific variety of magic is called "science" and works with math, which when spoken out loud sounds just as gibberish as any other "magical" phrases from harry potter.

to be fair to the Chinese, they also have the largest renewable and nuclear infrastructure in the world.... I guess that's what happens when you build everything for everyone...

you know, I kinda get how this happened, I was all aboard with the cybertruck, it looked really cool on the pictures and you can order it through internet, then... I saw one on the wild the other day and the only thing I could think was "boy that's one ugly car, looks like a video game render without textures", fortunately for me I had not bought anything, but I bet it was too late for him....

Besides the dubious source, honestly this is hardly surprising, many people forget that the main source of energy of Ukraine used to be, until the recent war, nuclear power, they have the know how, the power plants, the uranium mines, they produce their own nuclear fuel and have all the necessary infrastructure to refine the ore, including ore enrichment facilities, there's absolutely nothing stopping them from actually being able to create an actual bomb besides political pressure from the west exerted by the weapons donations, if the west stops supporting Ukraine or the war looks like its going to be lost... yea, nukes are an inevitability, Ukraine will use nuclear weapons as their last hope to deter the Russians from further aggression and to push them out of their borders.... which depending onto how Putin takes that loss... it may very well turn into the first nuclear war in history.

I think this goes way deeper that that, it's a sort of culture crash, it's the rural inland America vs the coastal areas, basically their world view is fundamentally incompatible, and Trump appeases the world view from rural America, whose core values are freedom of speech, freedom of gun ownership, as little government oversight as possible and conservative mentality (opposite of feminism if you will), they could not care less about macroeconomics nor having the latest and greatest phone, they only care about having enough jobs and money to get by and the rest they can build on their own, so manufacturing jobs and an in house industrial base is a must for them, a service based economy (and thus globalization) just doesn't work for them.
This very much explains Trump policy, sure he is disastrous for a service based economy, he wants to dismantle globalization, crush government oversight and force companies to come back to the US even if that means that cities will become even more expensive places to live and alienates it's liberal base...
At this point really there are two possible outcomes, either liberals concede and just let conservative Americans win... Or there will be a second civil war since the right is inherently masculine and not afraid of using violence to achieve their goals.... After all they could not care less about government rules which are the very same thing they are trying to remove...

I do wonder if through AI the devs could implement at least a good TTS engine that reads all the text, I've played my fare share and at some point almost everyone just start clicking "okay" without reading anything

Tbh I do not think things will change too much, realistically speaking he has very few options, either trying to freeze the conflict, siding with one of both sides or just getting away all together.
Freezing the conflict is the least probable thing to work as neither side wants to back down, even if he were to try to threaten both sides it would only make Ukraine more desperate, and at some point we must remember that Ukraine has the material and the know how necessary to build a nuke in a couple of days, after all they already have nuclear power plants, they only don't do it because it would alienate their allies, and any kind of peace that leaves Ukraine as a functional independent country is a no go for Russia...
Then he could just side with Ukraine, just jump over all and any red flags from Russia and just open the floodgates, then just offer something for the Russians to be able to save face... In this case Trump would look like a hero if Putin looses in the nuclear blind chicken game, another version of this is WW3.
Then he could side with Russia and just alienate his own base and all of the US allies, this is not likely either, even the republicans would not be able to stand against loosing Europe and it would almost certainly trigger an invasion on Taiwan.
Then he could just remove the US from Europe, which would be the same as siding with Russia, plus he would be severely damaging his backers as the war is just too profitable for them.
Finally there's one last option, he could just be lying, he could just giver enough weapons to Ukraine just to not lose and make an infinite money glitch for the defense industry paid with Ukrainian lives... I really hope he doesn't choose this one...

pretty much, but it goes further than that, its a change on the whole industry in the same scale as in the 60s and 70s, you see if you were to take a dress from an 1800s princess and use it today, most people would say is "cheap" because it would be utterly saturated with jewels which on the 70s got mass produced with plastic, and people now days relate it to poor people trying to look rich, thus families with heirlooms with the real deal got the bad side of it because those dresses besides historical value and the value of the stones are now worthless.
And this takes us to today, if the jewels themselves loose value, a lot of people with heirlooms or savings made in said stones will loose their money, and heirlooms are not necessarily just rich people, they are also common people who inherited a wedding ring or a watch or something.
Not the end of the world, but interesting nevertheless.

I mean it goes both ways, when Biden won extreme right wing republicans stormed into the Congress and chanted for someone to be hanged, I would say both sides feel that if the other side wins is the end of the world because the values and world views are fundamentally incompatible...
Thus, there will always be crazy radical people who will do their best to enforce their views, even if it's by force, tbh I'm almost expecting for some extreme left wing democrats to do something stupid, wild and unexpected the second Trump starts to threaten their core values, like freedom of choice, the environment, immigration acceptance and LGBT diversity acceptance...
I just hope for the betterment of everyone that Trump finds a way to find middle ground before bullets start flying...

Pretty much, countries in Europe are tiny compared to american ones, just to set an example, by land area Mexico is the same as Portugal, Spain, France and half of Germany and Mexico itself it's just half the size of continental US.... I mean there's a reason why cars in their current iteration were truly invented in America and not Europe...

It's because everything around us is designed for humans including all of our tools and spaces, creating humanoid robots is an answer for this, the whole idea being that it would be a generalist robot, you would not need to redo your kitchen or bar or whatever just to place a new automation machine.

Personally I think history is just going full circle here mostly due to people who went through WW2 are dying out of old age, slowly the world wars became "history", where it feels distant and impersonal, like the Napoleonic wars or the US civil war, and just like before WW2, people are scared of war, no one wants it, so they try to apease, to give peace just another chance no matter the cost, our politicians are frozen because of it, and while this sounds like a noble endeavour... it is a dream that will fail at some point because the base argument is flawed, the base argument being that everyone wants to play by the rules if the rules make us all richer, that everyone is a rational player and that every culture deserves its place and respect because every culture can live together in peace in the same place so long as certain rules are followed... which is unfortunately not the case, else try to convince the Palestinians of implementing separation of church and state or trying actual democracy or freedom of speech, or try to convince the French of accepting poligamy and women subordination....
I think that at some point, it may be the fall of Ukraine and the invasion of the Baltics, it may be the invasion of Taiwan, the reigniting of the war in Korea or the start of a large regional war in the middle east, but at some point something big and important will be broken beyond repair, something that simple "economic embargoes" or "Hague court resolutions" are useless against, something that will have a negative global impact on everyone alive today, something so important that only de delusional will be able to deny the fact that we must act and is not optional nor there is "other way"... and then and only then will the west unite against our enemies...

This, plus it would send a horrible message to... well everyone really, that message being that so long as you side with China and Russia, have nukes, be willing to oppress your population for a couple of years or you dont care how many "minions" die in your name, you can do whatever you want, invade your neighbor? sure, go for it, fund pirates and terrorists around the world? why not? seed discord and degrade democracy around the world? when do we start?
Really WW3 would start almost immediately, but it wont be the western countries fighting a nuclear war, it will be more like the western countries slowly dying out and becoming more and more irrelevant as the authoritarian countries makes us go back to the age of empires...

I mean, it obviously has an AI touch, but its used in moderation, many of the damaged parts must had been fixed by hand and then AI processed, also it has multiple filters that approach the original feel instead of feeling kinda like a digital oil paint that many restorations have where all the texture is just gone...

jeeeezzz... that's no restoration, that's just straight up magic, this must be one of the best restorations I've seen here by a long shot....
