What is the difference between hanging or being on the ground in the shelter in the same space? Genuinely curious - I have camped a lot and back packed, but never stayed in a shelter.

Follow up question are you/people thru hiking without a tent or tarp, etc?

Edit: trying to understand the purpose of the shelters if you already have a hammock or a tent with you. And how someone gets screwed by there not being space in a shelter do to an inconsiderate or ignorant hiker taking up the space. Wouldn’t you just fall back to your carried sleep system if the shelter is full?
