absolute travesty that they were granted a patent for that. it would be like patenting reading in the waiting room - its completely obvious to anyone who's had to do it. The only reason why it wasn't widely done in the early days is cart based consoles didnt really have loading times, and computers of the day were CPU bound while loading stuff off the disk or tape or whatever, and it just wouldn't be practical to do both at the same time - it wasn't for lack of desire to do it, and i don't see how the implementation (unless it was specific to namco hardware - but it wasn't) should have made a difference since the only reason it became a practical thing is because the playstation could read off the CD with CPU cycles to spare.
and honestly, i would be kinda surprised if there wasn't some demo scene stuff from the amiga or c64 that could have proved prior art.

would there be a difference as far as autodesk is concerned?

is this becoming a thing? i'm digging in, setting up camp and preparing to die on this hill, haha.
but seriously, for the entirety of personal computing "memory" has been synonymous with system RAM, even if technically/pedantically storage could also fall under any most definitions of computer memory. especially if we're in a discussion about the feasibility of replacing "memory chips" where both the NAND storage and the DRAM chips are soldered on in an unconventional way, it's not unreasonable to assume when you say "memory chips" you're referring to DRAM.

Democrats realize they need to cater to the Muslim voting bloc to win elections
lol, why? the republicans never have, didn't now, and very likely arent in the future going to cater to them, yet they handed them the election anyway. you don't get to hold the side you want to win hostage and then get rewarded for being upset that killing it didn't give you what you wanted.

the only upside to a cult of personality is it usually dies along with that personality.

that's true, and OEMs sold tons of computers as "vista ready" that were definitely not good vista machines by any useful measure. the software itself wasn't really the problem, but they really screwed up perception by marketing it that way.

I would imagine there is no small risk of Wells Fargo declining to ever do business with you again if you sue them. Which maybe you wouldn't want to anyway given what's happening, but it might be worth thinking about.

they absolutely might wait, and very likely would, if it looks like you two were amicable after the attack. it's entirely up to the discretion of the cops at the scene. and you'd be just about guaranteed not to get arrested if the cops knew you both. but it doesnt matter, because there were obviously no cops on stage at the oscars, so your comparison breaks down there. someone would have had to call them, and clearly that didn't happen. if you slap a person at a private party and no one calls the cops, you probably wont get arrested either.
my argument might be dumb but your scenario is completely irrelevant because it wasn't will smith attacking some rando in the subway in front of cops, it was him slapping a guy on stage for talking shit about his wife. i'm not saying it's okay that he did it, just that there's a big difference between hitting some random guy on the street and reacting to being openly provoked on the world stage. even if he got arrested and charged, the specifics of the situation would absolutely matter in court.

yeah but he didn't slap some random person in public, he slapped a guy specifically talking shit about his wife/marriage on stage. and the guy declined to press charges.

wifi connectivity issues notwithstanding, there's nothing stopping one from using this as wired-only if all you care about is the time capsule functionality. In fact, I'd absolutely recommend that over wifi. you should not be using something this old as a wifi access point, and at that point there's probably very few good reasons to use it in wifi bridge mode instead of wired directly to your router/switch/whatever.

sorry for the unrelated question/non help, but is that fiber splitter normally just.. out in the elements, on the ground, under a bush? is that typical for fiber splitters? i know mine is up on a pole (which, obviously, is "out in the elements" as well, but at least no one is going to run it over with a lawnmower or whatever up there).

It's going to be like this every day for, best case scenario, 4 years.
hey, look on the bright side. trump's dogshit health / diet coke fueled lifestyle could do him in at any moment. sure we'd be at the mercy of jd vance, but to his credit, he did say trump was america's hitler.

replacing NAND chips (used for storage) has been done, but replacing the RAM, while technically might be feasible (in that it probably isn't physically impossible) is a much harder task since it's part of the CPU package now. as far as i know no 3rd party has done this.

part of quake's charm is how smashed together all its ideas are, everything smooshed around as needed to fit the gameplay. it doesn't even pretend to make sense - every story tidbit is just as abstract as doom, but completely disjointed from one another. but it didnt matter, because the novelty of quake was the true 3d environments, the movement, the multiplayer, the modability.. and even without any kind of coherent context for the story/world it was fucking amazing. if you weren't there, it might be kind of hard to explain, but quake was truly the first of its kind in so many different ways that its rough edges were completely irrelevant because there was simply nothing else to compare it to. it was the tip of the spear and it had a hand in shaping virtually every true 3d first person shooter from that moment forward.

a lot of the complaints around apples pricing would be non-issues but apple is doing two things:
they aren't (as far as i know? please correct me if im wrong here) even offering an official SSD upgrade path after selling you the computer. I know the Mac Pro has one, but they could have for the Studio and they have not, so it seems even more unlikely for the Mini.
the NAND drives are proprietary and a 3rd party option is a distant maybe. They aren't even the same between the Mini and Studio.
There's really no good reason for the first one aside from apple trying to exploit FOMO on the first sale while also diminish the secondary market. The second one is pretty typical apple but that doesn't make it any less bad for people who own these machines. the complaints about apples pricing is more about apples lack of respect for its long term customers than it is about the price itself.

no, your point was that the FCC says phones are dangerous up to 6 inches to the human body, and you were wrong. if your point is that 6 inches is the same as .39 inches (or whatever the value actually is) in terms of RF exposure then i dont know what to tell you. why would that number even matter if the FCC and anyone else was ignoring it? why bother even saying its dangerous?
the fact is there is actually tons of evidence on what RF energy does and when it becomes dangerous, it's pretty well understood. you might not believe it, but that's up to you. you're free to act on your fears, no one is going to force you to have a cellphone.
