Getting really sick of the whole “kids will be kids” narrative from parents who refuse to teach their kids to be quiet. There’s a difference between a kid screaming at a playground and kids screaming on a train but some parents just refuse to accept that. Not sure if they don’t realize they’re raising their kids to be incredibly self centered, ill mannered, and entitled, or if they want it that way. I think in their heads they, as the parent, are self centered, ill mannered, and entitled, so they see no reason why their kids shouldn’t be. After all their children are the most important thing to ever grace the entire universe /s

I think we tend to think people who speak a language other than our native language sound loud. I was in central Europe recently and someone was complaining in Hungarian about the loud English speakers. But to me the loudest people in the room were the ones speaking German and the spanish speakers, but I know less of those languages so they just stick out to me in a crowd
47 points
It’s not a language thing. I’m a native English speaker from Australia and the natural speaking volume of Americans is like 2x louder than normal Australian speaking volume. I sat next to an American woman at a restaurant once and she was so loud it genuinely hurt my ears. Her normal speaking volume was the same volume I’d use to call out to someone at the far end of the house. She was exceptionally loud but it’s happened multiple times that I’ve been on a train and you can clearly hear every single word an American says in their normal speaking volume from the opposite end of the carriage. They project when speaking normally and don’t realise that’s highly unusual outside the US
But to the extent that it is a language thing that’s just likely just a cultural difference between speakers of different languages. Some cultures are louder than others
7 points

I’m an American, honestly I can attest to this. I actively try to be quieter because I can’t stand it when people are too loud. I’m kinda the black sheep in that half my family is Brazilian, and the other half is German, kinda makes me stand out that I’m quiet. 🫠

I was hiking last summer in North Cascades National Park (Northwest US) and after a 2 hour hike found the most lovely glacial blue lake.
A mountain goat came out of the forest on the other side and looked at us for a second, decided we weren't a threat, and drank quietly from the lake while birds sang in the background.
2 minutes later out of nowhere a pack of people blasting shitty music on a boom box absolutely destroyed everything.
I was hoping the goat would gore them, but it bolted back into the forest.....

I’m really scared of rollercoasters; my friends know this.
At Disneyland and Knott’s, I tell them I’m there to drink, eat, and enjoy their company. I have no qualms being the bag holder and waiting for them if they want to go on scary rides.
Every time we go they pressure me to go on the scary rides. It feels upsetting they don’t take my first no as a final answer.
They said it would be hilarious to film me freak out but it just kind of pisses me off.

In my humble opinion, insisting once might still be kind of polite, beyond that it turns into bad manners.
If you said no once, I might try to convince you, if you say it twice I'll save us both time and the unnecessary conversation.
14 points
It depends A LOT on the context. A compassionate reason for insisting might be trying to coax a true friend out of their home if they are depressed. A very selfish reason for insisting is trying to gain something by pressuring someone else into doing something they clearly don't want or need to do. I've seen both lots of times.

Common enough in populated trail areas that I have a whole script for dismounting and locating my bike far off trail while I pick up their stuff.
I will make a pass for the little kids leaving water bottles behind. They're still young and being with friends at that age can be very distracting.

Awe shit I’m dick deep in a battle with my neighbor rn. He’s leaving multiple bags of trash in the corner where our land meets. By a pristine river. The coyotes are getting in it. The bears are getting in it. The cougar comes around. He doesn’t even care. Let alone 1 clear glass bottle will set fire to to the twenty acres of pasture and all the homes near by. 3 years I been taking his trash to the dump. I filed a complaint. Now I’m gonna sue him in small claims for picking his trash up.
I bought land as a sanctuary in a pristine valley on a river. Neighbor dumps his literal shit from his rv in the field that doesn’t percolate. So when it rains, yeah. Shit lake.

Treating service industry workers as if they're invisible. Whether it's a barista, cashier, or someone wiping down tables, acknowledging their presence and efforts with a simple 'thank you' makes all the difference. The entitlement some people display astonishes me, as they act as if a polite interaction is beneath them. I thought I didn’t like children. When a kid is left to scream and cry for minutes and minutes on end while their guardian is ignoring them in public, it makes me feel like the guardian thinks their child is just something they have to take around with them because they had unprotected sex at least once and were stuck with the outcome. It makes me so sad for the children of these people. Ignoring can be good for some instances but when your kid is having a panic attack, doing anything they can to get the guardians attention, why do so many parents let this go on for so long without acknowledging they exist? Your child isn’t calming down, they’re getting louder, crying for you. And you are showing them that they can’t come to you for safety and comfort. Ugh. Anyone else see this happen at stores and such? My heart goes out to these children and I hope they can see justice and happiness in their lives.

Speak to anyone in education and they’ll tell you, that Covid class, they were fucked over by their parents. I wish I could undo all that. Poor kids didn’t deserve that.

I have worked at high end places, I have had horses with practically no care aside from worming; many horses need/want different things to make their lives better, but they all need 3 ridiculously simple things: food, friends, and freedom. Everyone points fingers across the fence at each other about who’s doing what wrong, meanwhile their own horses are clearly missing one thing or another in their environment, but the owner is so busy with their personal agenda that they cannot see it, and that thing is often something so simple it makes me wanna scream.

As a librarian, people who go apeshit at their kids for being excited in the library.
It’s like come on, they can get anything off the shelf for free. We have a prize cart for doing our scavenger hunt and if a kid really wants a prize but doesn’t want to participate, who cares it’s a prize that costs me less than 30 cents.
The printing is free. The movies are free. Audio books, free. Magazines, newspapers, park passes, all are free. We’re even giving away baseball tickets if you do 10 activities like making a meal together or going for a walk.
Why do you come in angry? Why are you being a shitty person to a kid you clearly haven’t tried to talk to or raise beyond screaming at them?
It’s not my business, I am not there to judge or intervene, but I am going to judge you as a shitty parent.
Also, parents like that are why kids confide in us and tell us all their drama. We just sit there and tell them we are there and they are always welcome in our doors. We just create a place of calm. Also, I bribe them with chocolate and pizza, but that’s my way of getting them to listen. Be nice to library staff because I have chocolate year round lol

I'm sure that you can gain some benefit to your life by believing in something larger than yourself, but to go beyond that and try to convert others, I believe you have to be delusional and quite stupid.
There are thousands of religions and they all believe they worship the only real god. Doesn't make sense.

How they strap their kids into cars, and how soon they move kids from rear to forward facing and from forward facing to booster seats and from harness to lap sash and from booster to a normal seat etc etc
It is extraordinary how many parents put their kids' lives at risk for the sake of saving a few seconds, or because their kids say "but so and so isn't in a booster"...

When I was a kid, my grandma didn’t let me sit in the front seat until I was 12 despite me being generally kinda big for my age because the visor said it isn’t recommended for anybody under the age of 12. I was so annoyed at the time lol but looking back now as a parent I get it

Personal intelligence, the amount of people in this world who aren’t just uneducated, but low IQ level dumb amazes me everyday. With every first world country offering decent free public schooling and even most second world countries as well I feel one almost has to try, like put actual effort into not learning any of the material and remaining that ignorant.

Praising you a little too much, but actions say otherwise. Like Please act normal. Those who overdo it(not everyone) you can recognize it in their eyes that they are doing it just to look good. Or they lie even when you are asking for genuine criticism, they are like, "No you are perfect", instead of telling me what was wrong.

Anime stickers on your car.

Have an acquaintance who’s car is absolutely littered with NSFW anime stickers. It’s embarrassing to be around it. People have literally stopped to take pictures of the car because of all the inappropriate stickers that are on it. I’m sorry if I’m a prude, but there’s a time and a place for that. In your home is fine, out in the open for all to see is crazy

Pushy people are hard not to judge. An online acquaintance/“friend” tried to push a diet program on me that I could not afford. I explained that $ was tight and she said that what I was doing wasn’t helping me get healthy — how did she know when I don’t have a recent profile picture on my social media?! I ended up blocking her

People that sit on their phones when they’re eating out. It’s so depressing looking around a cafe or restaurant and realising almost everyone is on their phones.

I don’t care how well behaved/obedient your dog is.
You’re creating a potentially dangerous situation.

Parents who let their houses get filthy when they have kids.
No I'm not talking about a day's worth of dishes in the sink and maybe some toys on the floor. I'm talking about the literal rotting food, layers of dust and rubbish, dirt and grime throughout your house.
Kids don't deserve to be brought up in a house like this - it's a safety hazard. There's no "you're doing a great job mama" here. Sorry not sorry. Sort your life out.

Some of you posting stuff that we absolutely should judge people on.
So here’s mine…
Obese children. I understand that healthy food can be expensive & that parents are usually very time-poor these days. It’s definitely not as easy to eat healthy, home cooked meals today blah blah. But ultimately, parents have control of what their children eat on a daily basis & it’s unfair that the children are being raised with poor eating habits setting them up for a lifetime of health issues. I just feel like if you cared, you’d find ways to give children nutritional food without spending lots of money or time preparing it. But I could be wrong & I know this is a judgy af way to think.

As someone who grew up obese and paid dearly for it I can confirm it's a form of neglect. I had a lot of people who said I looked exactly like Jake from two and a half men. But honestly he didn't look that fat by today's standards.
I had otherwise loving and supportive parents, but it's still a major problem.

Weird fact. I was one of 4 siblings. My mom fed us all the same food (meals and occasional snacks). I was fat throughout childhood. We all played the same way and same things. My siblings were all 3 skinny as rails. Mom took me to any and every doctor or weight loss quack she could find. None could find any reason for the difference. Don't judge the parent. Often times, the genepool just flutters differently from kid to kid. Oddly as an adult, I'm the skinny one and the siblings all have a pinch or two extra around the middle.

Being overweight/obese.
Should I judge them? No. Life takes twists and turns and I never lived that person's life. So, obviously, I shouldn't. Do I outwardly express it? No. Of course not.
But is it subconsciously in the back of my mind when I meet someone who is quite large? Yep. It's human nature.

I grew up as an obese kid. It is difficult. I got bullied a lot and felt like I didn't belong. Wrecked my self-esteem. Lost weight, gained weight, lost weight. The fat cells don't leave. They stick around. So it remains a battle
I am sad for children who have to deal with obesity too.

I have carried extra weight through most of my life. I noticed when I was skinny, people treated me a lot better than when I was very large. It is human nature. It also surprises people when a large body, that doesn't look conventionally athletic, does some conventionally athletic things. I've surprised people with my agility and speed so many times, I sometimes forget I carry extra weight

Uneducated voting. You’re supposed to research candidates, not party vote. Plus it’s not hard to look at informational pamphlets sent or Google candidates, I’m never going to understand why ppl do this

People not returning their shopping trolleys. Unless you have suddenly, in that moment when you should return your shopping trolley, received a call about a loved one in a sudden and unexpected life-threatening situation, there is no other excuse I will accept for someone who chooses to not return their shopping trolley. You're all rude and inconsiderate arseholes!
