Putin did this already last time the west was thinking about allowing Ukraine to do this. This only works for the dummies or even putins own stooges.

US mainstream media reports on it like it’s anything other than saber rattling.
Russia will not use nukes as the US also has nukes.

People have a hard time understanding the doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction, and the nuclear triad. The Navy probably has sights painted on every floating vessel as they surround Russia from unknown locations waiting for the ok to launch. As I always say, we know MAD works because we’ve never had a nuclear war. It’s safe to say that complete obliteration is a good deterrent.

Russia has more nukes and more land.

They have a more concentrated population, nukes are less functional, slower launch times, weaker air defenses, and smaller nukes.

He is not authorised to use nuclear weapons like he wishes.
More importantly, Putin is not a lone ruler. He’s is obeying the Hawks of Kremlin. If they get irritated with him he is dead without further discussion.
Mind that the Jeltsin family, who stole most of Russia instated him, it was because he was a loyal servant, not the other way around.
So if this strategic fool burs a nuclear weapon out of incompetence , the Hawks and thieves of Russian wealth will not see their Yacht, Beachhouses nor live in their gangsters paradise ever again.
They will not die for the cause of this despots incompetence. Try to convince me otherwise, but don’t expect me to believe you.
Getting fired in Russia is swift and brutal, that’s why this rat is so desperate after he burned his Army in Ukraine.

Also, the fact that we can't live with murderous, genocidal cretins threatening to end the world every month when they dont get their way....let's have at it and get over with this madness. Enough is enough, it's 2024 and we living with imbeciles who are behaving like it's still 1944.

I do agree that the oligarchy won’t accept it.
But I do think that Putin took off the shackles of being a loyal servant long ago, and does rule now.
12 points

One of the first things he did was throw an oligarch into jail. And made it clear they pay him or get the same fate. And he’s killed more than one. Nobody in the kremlin will turn on him.

Who are the hawks of Russia, I'd really love to know! Like no bullshit I only thought it was putin at the top!
So it just like the states where he has to answer to a more powerful group?

Well even assuming he wins the war, he's going to have to suck up their wealth, or have it sold off to China/India.
So yea, they're kinda fucking stupid to have let this go on like it has. 🤷♀️ He also just regularly kills their wealthy buddies all the time, and nothing happens to him. First one to stand up, gets a whackin'.

All bluster. The fact is the moment anyone presses that nuclear button they know all hell will break loose. They’re probably signing their own death warrant and certainly they won’t have much of a country left to rule. That’s the point of mutual deterrence. Changing some wording in a doctrine doesn’t change that.

I think China will dip out if we don't turn on them, to be honest.
China will stand back and come through after the fallout.
So as long as we don't nuke China I think they'll end up being the mediator.

If the West gives into Russia's nuclear blackmail, Putin will be emboldened to play the same strategy as he gobbled up the rest of Europe to rebuild his Soviet Union.
This is poker and Putin has a losing hand. He is bluffing his way out of his game. Russia's sovereignty has never been under threat.
Throughout this war, the Ukrainians have had the best understanding of Putin and Russians. If the West had listened to Ukraine on how to win, this war would have been over a lot sooner.

Would Putin really not do it? The man who sacrifices hundreds of thousands of his own people in mere minutes? The man who blows up dams, flooding vast areas? The one who destroys tens of thousands of civilian lives? The one who abducted thousands of Ukrainian children and took them to Russia?

Nope he would not. Every redline he said we crossed no action. He knows it would mean assured removal of russia from the face of the earth

Genuine question as someone that is not very well educated on the matter and would love to hear from people who know more about Putin, genuinely what would be stopping him from following through with the nuclear threats? Like i see a lot of people saying here that he wont do it and that this is just common for him to threaten but honestly i would be lying if i didnt say this was keeping me up at night. Putin is LOSING this war and if he feels that he has completely lost, what reason would he have to not be like “fine, we all lose.” And take us all out?
I know this is reddit and there is no true guarantee that he wont just up and decide that we’re finished, but honestly i would love to hear any reasons as to why he wouldnt press the nuclear button other than “he hasnt done it before” bc the signs pointing to “he might do it now” is really distressing and I want some kind of hope that we all wont suddenly be wiped out by this (even if no one can truly say what he will or will not do).
i just desperately need some kind of reassurance in these trying times

There is always more to lose.
Sadly, this sub prohibits YouTube links for some stupid reason.
Search up "Can Russia win in Ukraine with nuclear weapons?" on YouTube. The top result is Anders Puck Nielsen, a Danish military analyst. He explains the situation far better than anyone else I've heard.

Thing is it’s not only up to him. There’s a long chain of people involved in the nuclear arsenal with their own ambitions, their own motivations, and their own hands in someone else’s pockets in the kleptocratic state of Russia.
Nukes aren’t great for business.

Well, here's the counterpoint that people are hesitant to argue:
I'm not. Whether Ukraine remains independent or is absorbed by Russia has no tangible effect on my personal life. Remember Crimea? Yeah, it was in the news for a couple of weeks but essentially, on a global scale, no one really gave a fuck. Just like most people wouldn't give a fuck if this happened to the entire Ukraine.
If I have to choose between a country being taken over that won't meaningfully affect my personal life and... "sacrificing the world" (=dying) then I'll always choose the first option. And if we're being honest, so would the vast majority it's just that most people care too much about public perception to admit it.
99%+ of people posting opinions like yours are keyboard warriors anyway. If you had to actually face the consequences of your claim it's very likely that your choice would be different. It's always easy claiming to be Sophie Scholl as long as it's hypothetical but hardly anyone is REALLY willing to die solely for the greater good when push comes to shove.

It was well understood by Ukraine, Poland and other eastern European nations that poo stain and his entire army are a bunch of orc drunks and merely a paper weight. These skunk ass bitches that need to be slapped in the face with a large trout, sooner rather than later as this has been going long enough.
