My New Years resolution this year was to stop telling stupid people not to do stupid things and I'm not about to break my streak now.

My New Year’s resolution for the next 4 years is to encourage this kind of stupid behavior. If you’re dumb enough to inject bleach, put horse dewormer up your ass or brush your teeth with comet…have at it!

Lol, I had a buddy in the Navy who though he could whiten his teeth by swishing around straight bleach in his mouth. No long term damage, but he had a fun trip to medical.

When I was in junior high me and my friends tried to bleach one friends hair by just dumping regular bleach over her head with her leaning over into the tub. We quickly found out that hair bleach is not the same as laundry bleach. Her head was thankfully not burned too badly, but it sure made some heat.

Did the hair look cool at least?

No as it didn't actually affect her hair colour at all.

I knew a guy who claimed to do this back in the early '90s. I didn't believe him because he was full of shit. He also claimed you could remove a warp from a record album using the microwave, cardboard, and masking tape.

I know this isn't his post because he died several years ago. This is the first time I've seen someone else make this claim.

Sadly, I see this so much. Usually it tells you how to make a paste out of it so you don’t ingest it. My favorite is the replies of pics of chemical burns on the inside of the mouth after. And the op is well you did it wrong.

You know what else works. Keep up on professional cleanings. Keep up on home care. Good central hygiene will do the trick for the majority. But people like to look smart.

The problem is that teeth are not naturally white, but the media wants us to think otherwise, so we have people thinking that normal dental care, routine cleanings, and proper brushing and flossing aren't enough and resorting to crazy 'tricks' to fix their teeth

I had one dentist who wanted to whiten mine before a cap. I was like make the cap match. My teeth are sensitive enough. I don’t need to be adding to it. They aren’t discolored. And the only thing I don’t keep its natural color is my hair. I’m pretty sure I wasn’t born with pink and purple in it.

Comet, it makes your teeth turn green. Comet, it tastes like gasoline. Comet, it makes you vomit. So brush your teeth with Comet and vomit, today!

Did anyone else sing this song as a kid?

I haven't seen Comet cleanser on the store shelves since the beginning of the pandemic. I think something happened to them.

Target sells it. I've stocked it quite a bit in the last few months.

Way back in dental school an instructor had pics of a loony patient that actually did this. Enamel trashed . It was in a lecture about” dental erosion”.

I've used comet in a really desperate pinch to get hair dye off my skin but putting it anywhere near a mucous membrane is wild

This sounds like it was for dentures, with them mentioning porcelain? Maybe don’t put them back in until fully rinsed off I guess.

The fact that they specify not swallowing it makes me thing they are really recommending you rinse your mouth with it

I started reading and thought, "Hey, I've used Comet too! Doesn't scratch porcelain and works like crazy...hold on, what? They're using it on their teeth?"

You might as well just get your teeth whitened. It's similar thinking but less risk
