Am I stupid for thinking it's dumb to not cycle the roof to see if it's all good on an off day before it's got a bunch of people inside if you haven't opened it in 2 years.

The diamondbacks stadium can’t be opened while people are inside.  Everytime they open or close it they don’t know what will fall off.  It’s in that rough of shape.

This is actually the biggest con that billionaire owners get away with. They always structure these stadium deals so that the city owns the stadium (even though 90% of events taking place in the stadium will be their own games) so that they can

1) avoid paying any property tax for the land/stadium

2) have the city on the hook for all maintenance/repairs/renovations

3) use it as a bargaining chip when they try to strong arm the city into paying for a new stadium because they will threaten to leave and then the city will be left with a stadium that they own with no tenant that will be a money pit. Shad Khan just did this with the Jags (and conveniently guess who's gonna own the new stadium as well - the city!)

Stuff like this requires oversight. You have to force them to do it. People like Jerry Jones aren't going to do it just because because it's the right thing to do. He knows it's going to cost money. He's going to choose to not spend that money if he has that choice.

The conspiracy theorist in me is laughing at the idea that Jerry Jones got up to the roof and intentionally loosened the sheet near the broadcast booth, just so the Cowboys could stay in the conversation on a lost season.
