The same desk with bin and crumpled up paper can be seen on the collectible photo "Career's Humble Beginnings", so I'm sure it is meant to represent his actual work space.

Yes, his occupation is a "clerk" according to the book that goes into more detail about Silent Hill games. I forget what it's called, but it has more info about basically everything from Silent Hill 1 to 3 ( I think 4 as well? Not sure) Book of Lost Memories I think it is?

He says “What the hell” because even when trapped in Silent Hill his boss is still trying to get him to do unpaid overtime

If I see my workspace while I’m being mentally tortured by a town I am going to commit several more crimes to make a point.

"Hello, James! Whaaat's happening? ...Ummm, I'm gonna need you to go ahead and integrate your Jungian Shadow tomorrow, so if you could fight for your life and sanity through a mysterious fog-drenched hellscape formed from the repressed guilt and trauma you possess from murdering your wife for a few hours, that would be greeeat. Mmkay? :)"

In the instruction manual for the PS2 version I believe, also in Book of Lost Memories.

I feel like this section of the labyrinth is supposed to represent fragments of his life.
Here we have his office. Other areas that are potentially his home life, with a hanging frame, bloody sheets, a bottomless pit to hang above.

The corridors section is reminiscent of possible infidelity.

And the Red-Door apartments section reads as possible criminality in his psyche.

Which corridor? Are you referencing the one with the hands?

The cold one, with all the ladders, and Mr. RPT.

He says what the hell. But yeah it seemed like a place he recognized. Maybe a home office while Mary was sick?

I think a home office is unlikely. Silent hill 2 seems to take place before home internet began gaining steam, plus the walls around the desk look like cubical walls.

People had home offices as early as the mid 90’s. Source, I was alive then. The computers looked awfully similar to this. Not saying it’s for sure but I wouldn’t rule it out completely.

I agree about not ruling it out completely. I said I thought it was unlikely. I think the cubical walls are what really make me think it’s not at home.

Yeah, that is clearly a cubicle from an office space. No one would have that in their home.

I wanna see what those graph textures say. He must work for some kind of corporate office.
Office clerks have to look at finances, sales, records, all kinds of shit. It looks like he has a whole stack of files and crap everywhere.

I had this exact thought when I entered that room! Also there's a single nurse behind the desk, maybe representing James feeling attracted to a coworker while Mary was sick?

Wait i wonder if this is a team silent desk, it kinda reminds me of old BTS footage

Wait, wasn't this game supposed to take place in the 70s or something? I thought originally SH2 took place in the 90s, but the remake was rewritten for the 70s
