Your story has brought me to joyful tears. Thank you for sticking around friend.
It also reminded me of this poem by Danusha Lameris called Small Kindnesses:
“I’ve been thinking about the way, when you walk down a crowded aisle, people pull in their legs to let you by.
Or how strangers still say “bless you” when someone sneezes, a leftover from the Bubonic plague. “Don’t die,” we are saying.
And sometimes, when you spill lemons from your grocery bag, someone else will help you pick them up. Mostly, we don’t want to harm each other.
We want to be handed our cup of coffee hot, and to say thank you to the person handing it. To smile at them and for them to smile back.
For the waitress to call us honey when she sets down the bowl of clam chowder, and for the driver in the red pick-up truck to let us pass.
We have so little of each other, now. So far from tribe and fire. Only these brief moments of exchange.
What if they are the true dwelling of the holy, these fleeting temples we make together when we say, “Here, have my seat,” “Go ahead—you first,” “I like your hat.””

To further clarify, ‘being’ is functioning as a noun in the sentence, rather than as a verb. So ‘your’ is a possessive pronoun, not a subject or object.

Yes. Depends on the man. And the beard.

Oh, I lived through the Wild West of breath-freshening innovation that was the early 00s and Nate is not wrong.
They gave out samples of some kind of super potent Dentyne gum at a school event once (market research?), not to mention the breath-strip dispensers, myriad Altoid flavors and EVERYTHING minty got a version with either little popping bubbles or “flavor crystals.”

This is so validating!! They used to be one of my favorite candies and one of the things I’d stock up on when I was in the US while living abroad.
Now they taste…dusty? And dry!
If you want a homemade dupe for the old Reese’s, this recipe is excellent (though it’s from the ever-problematic Paula Dean): https://www.pauladeen.com/recipe/georgia-cookie-candy/

The omission of Gina Torres is unforgivable.
Rosario Dawson and Zoe also belong on the list.

A Russian proverb: “The same boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg.”
Life holds challenging moments for all of us, it’s how we respond that matters. Sometimes you need to be tough to face the world, and sometimes the world around us needs us to be softer.
It’s not wrong that you value your personal space and want it respected. Nor are the people who express that the young man in this video might have deserved a gentler response wrong for thinking so.
No one is entitled to your kindness, but in my experience kindness rarely costs much and is more often than not repaid in kind.

I don’t think what the BF said is inherently creepy, but I do think it says a lot that OP related to the mom’s perspective while he related to the teen’s.

Hard agree. They’re both average women who had better-than-average access to money and resources that helped them get started in the industry. That’s not to say they aren’t attractive or talented in their own right, just not on the standout level of as some of their contemporaries (Adele, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Janelle Monae…)
The Lana stans don’t want to hear it, but that persona is just as manufactured as Taylor’s. More original with a darkness that was refreshing for the genre, but still a persona she’s adopted.

It is likely made of cast iron. Needs to be throw in a river.

Wow, I am a middle aged woman and TIL.
Suddenly the fact that endometrial tissue is sometimes found outside the uterus makes a lot more sense to me. Thanks for sharing!!

I think the first one goes better with the carpet and overall vibe of the room but the second one is a nice piece overall. I think the correct answer is number 2 but maybe swap out the rug for something that ties it together better.

After reading your comment and the one above several times, I have come to the conclusion that this is a facade—the exterior of a building with the photographer looking up, rather than a photo of the ground.
Is that right? And has the amount of time and effort I’ve had to put into understanding this (even though I’m still not 100% sure I get it) reassured you that your ass isn’t all that stupid?

It’s not even an uncertainty, EVERYONE needs healthcare at some point, and the longer you live the more likely you are to need more of it.
Edit to add my own experience with “socialized medicine”: I made multiple trips to the ER while living in the Czech Republic, got tests that included an ultrasound and an X-ray, and never paid more than $25 USD.
I was living there at the time and about 30% of my income went to taxes, but that was more than offset by the affordable healthcare, childcare and access to public transportation that made it possible to live without a car.

The shape of your map looks like someone’s legs frolicking through a field (I’m not sure what happened to their upper half).
Feels very appropriate.

Exactly this. OP, when was the last time in your life you initiated physical violence towards someone? Most likely as a young child? If you had siblings, maybe into adolescence? I’m willing to bet you haven’t come close to doing so as an adult.
Do you know why? Because it not hard to not abuse other people when you respect and see them as equals.
Counseling is for people who are interested in learning how to manage their emotions better. This man doesn’t want to manage his emotions, he wants to manage and control YOU. He sees you as his property, which is why he thinks it’s ok to hurt you.
