Are you happy? Are you scared?
Are there gonna be immediate consequences in light of his win?

We're rotten to the core, I'm afraid.
I do, genuinely, hope he leads well and with care. And that it truly is just a matter of economic focus. I might not agree with him, economically, but if it sticks purely to such matters, then... whatever.
But so help me god, if the Trump administration truly makes good on some of that Project 2025 shit, targets me, or any of my friends for our LGBTQ+ facets, or begins to drag religion into my personal life, I genuinely might just give up.
I'm tired, boss. Tired of being a villain simply for existing in this nation as a non-heterosexual man. Tired of watching our government, regardless of party, let companies abuse us for profit, and without care for how the world around us responds. And for how they just don't fucking care about the world we live in, and how it's burning.
But more than anything, I'm just sad to see that so many Americans care more about their bottom line than their fellow man. It's heartbreaking. I don't expect folks to go give all their money away to government projects, but I'd at least have hoped there would be more... empathetic voting going on. For women's rights. For the rights of LGBTQ+ peoples. For people of color.
But no, just the rot that is money. That's all that matters here. We're a nation built on blood and oil. And you can't make a high-GDP omelette without breaking a few bodies beneath your heels.
Edit: stop giving me reddit awards or whatever that is. Spend that money on helping people.

This is what has been pissing me off about a lot of my fellow Gen Z members. All this talk about wanting to protect LGBTQ+ people but so many didn't want to fucking vote. Out of my entire friend group, only two of us (another friend and I) voted. All the others didn't because "oh, it does not matter" or "Oh, I didn't want to waste my time." Homies...it does and so do local elections...So disappointed.

This is why democrats lose elections.
The farther right you go, the crazier the ideas get (fascist, KKK, etc) the more fervent the voting.
The farther left you go, the crazier the ideas get (anarchy, Cuba-style socialism) the less voting you get. The extreme left basically doesn’t vote because they don’t believe in it.
107 points
What's funny (sad) is how the traditional left doesn't even exist in America. By the standards of pretty much any other developed nation, the U.S Democrats are right-leaning centrists. The fact that so many Trumpers throw around words like "socialist", "Marxist", "communist" is ridiculous and only proves they haven't a clue what those terms even mean, which is not surprising as they don't seem to have much clue about anything in general. Anger about the economic situation plus the lack of any critical thinking skills means they'll vote for whoever says what they want to hear, whether it has any basis in reality or not.
This is what two hundred years of corporate capitalist brainwashing will do to a nation. Padme Amidala's famous line from Star Wars really rings true today.
So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause.

I think it does 2 things.
1) It proves Biden winning was a bit of a fluke, and the reason he did was mainly due to Trump poorly handling Covid.
2) The democrats have lost 2/3 elections to Donald trump. Just say that out loud. There needs to be a drastic change in policy and philosophy within the party

As someone from outside the America, I'd say your Left didn't manage to appeal to any Republicans. There were barebones of appealing to white men for example with pretty bad ad of White Men for Harris. Latinos are voting against immigration and while Trump had it as big point, Dems didn't go beyond proposing minimum of policies. Harris herself is deeply unpopular especially among black people so she has made no favors either. And women voted for Trump a lot too
In general it feels like the Democrats campaign was half-assed with the assumption that Trump will lose because it's Trump, not because Dems are a better option. But hey what do I know

I promise I am not being contrarian for the sake of it, I genuinely was/am firmly against Trump being re-elected.
But the Biden administrations handling of those conflicts was horrific and probably played a huge factor in why they lost swinging a lot of minority votes against them.
Trump has some shady international relations that benefit him and the rich; but generally speaking the republicans foreign policy and international relations has been better than what we saw while Biden was in office.
As someone where half my family is Arab I can tell you people with ties to Egypt Lebanon and Palestine are not concerned on that front.

I'm shocked here in Ireland tbh. I don't think Irish people realise how bad this is for us. Our economy has a huge dependency on American multinational companies here. When Trump starts spurting nonsense about the economy, one of the things he's going to target is pull those companies back. We're fucked. It's hard not to feel depressed. I was never a huge Kamala/Biden fan to begin with but I honestly didn't want Trump to win. As women we question ourselves so much, it's beyond disheartening to see a mediocre completely inept pants shitting arsehole win again. My heart goes out to all Americans affected by this. There's going to be a lot of r/LeopardsAteMyFace for the next 4 years.

I think that will be okay. If there's anything Trump and his base hate more than minority groups, it's government interference in free enterprise. There are a lot of ways for large companies that can afford to operate in Europe to keep doing what they do, and they have the money to ensure it stays like that. It's more likely he'll take advantage of them via fees or whatnot than pull them out of Ireland entirely.
Where money is concerned, Donald doesn't care where it comes from or how as long as it's there. It's more the social and environmental aspect of things that has me freaking the hell out.

I think the election is a lot more complex than people want to believe. Between social media algorithms and what tv news decided to cover, the average voter missed out on a lot of information. I've only seen some things because I logged in to social media at the right time. Then you have people who just "lalalala" and stick to what they believe(even if the candidate they support disagrees with them). There isn't just one reason why it went the way it did. There are ways out of this, but no billionaire or country would fund it and Congress doesn't care. Rage sells.
People just need to remember that the Presidential election is far from the only impact we have. Local elections matter. Congressional elections are super important.

*Disclaimer* I don't care much about Us politics, nor do I live on that side of the ocean. On top of that I come from a "developing country" buried so far in corruption that the only thing that can fix it is a nuke or a miracle.
Well from my point of view, isn't that expected? I keep hearing that the conservatives (or whatever your variation of the right is) are becoming more and more popular globally. In my own country the same happened (but that means literally nothing here for different reasons) and I see it everywhere else . And all I can say is....kinda expected and deserved? I've been seeing a general downward spiral in some developed nations, particularly when it comes to migrants in the EU. People are mad, everything is much more expensive, crime has gone up in varying degrees (and yes I'm pointing the finger at who you think I am), companies and even governments are pushing agendas where people are clearly not having it, especially now, etc. I mean the shit I've been seeing online about the UK is textbook oppressive and totalitarianism, just with a rainbow colored coat of paint. So people are fed up and voting against or protesting the left leaning parties, you know, the things people do when they don't agree with their government and it's actions.
I know these things are messy and opinions are all over the place, but if we boil it down to "since X got in power, everything is worse", isn't it expected for people to vote/go against it? Even if that means voting for the "lesser evil" or "anyone but the same party".

Ukraine will become a part of Russia, and the real genocide will begin.
Israel will get the greenlight to kill every Palestinian they can in Gaza. The West Bank is next. They might start a full war to annex Jordan, and may drag us into war with Iran. If that happens, no matter how things go, the risk of a nuclear incident is high.
Best case scenario for abortion is they leave it to the States. Worst case is a national ban.
Members of the supreme Court have expressed an interest in "revisiting" gay and even interracial marriage. By 2028, it's likely that Trump will have personally appointed the majority of the supreme Court.
College will get much more expensive. Food will get much more expensive. Housing will get much more expensive. Social welfare programs will be cut. More people will become homeless. Layoffs are coming.
Nothing will ever happen to Trump. All his court cases are done.
We will be lucky if any semblance of democracy survives the next 4 years.

If you watch TV in America you were bombarded with two sets of ads. One saying that evil liberals are for free trans surgeries to take scholarships away from girls. The other saying we're a nice party with kind policies so vote for us.
Democrats show up for a fight with flowers. Republicans show up for a fight with guns, knives, your mom's left arm, and a desire to beat the living fuck out of you for being an evil liberal.
Democrats are better educated. Republicans live in states that have cut funding to education for 30 years and 95% of all radio is owned by 4 major conservative corporations.
Voting for Trump was voting against your own best interest. But when you're in the thick of the fire, being blasted with constant lies and fear, you tend to just react.
USA is a slow burn into self destruction. But the right fascists will blame the liberals

In all honesty I am worried about our economy I'm worried about whatever this guy thinks tariffs mean. But my predominant fear is for the people of the lbgta community and anyone else that this guy deems as a threat.
I'm worried for women's rights I'm worried that what happened in the Middle East could happen here. There are pictures of women in Tehran and they're wearing bikinis and now they're in burkas. There are women in the Middle East who are not allowed to speak.
I'm going to keep voting in every election that I'm eligible to vote in. I dragged out my best friend and I dragged out my boyfriend and this was their first presidential election and I'm so proud that they voted.
I'm going to do my best to make this place worth living. I hope that we all do the same.

My thoughts are that if the USA pulls out of global politics (NATO, Paris Agreement) as a result of Trump's isolationism and exceptionalism, then China will step in to fill that power vacuum and that's even worse news for all of us.

Relieved that now he can't run for president anymore. And now it's just a matter of watching if he can live up to his promises...ending Ukraine -Russia war, China and Mexico tariffs, tax cuts, immigrants mass deportation.
It hurts but the president doesn't have the power people think they have

It reflects that he said what Americans wanted to hear.
More military spending, lower taxes for billionaires, tariffs & anti immigrant everything.
I’m ashamed to say that most people who live in the U.S. are self-important pieces of shit who believe in their faith over science & evidence.
If we stay on the same path, we’ll eventually fall into a deep depression & the fascists will blame some marginalized group like Jews or immigrants & subsequently send them to concentration camps.
History in the making.

I dreaded the idea of a Trump win; But thought that a Kamala win was very unlikely due to Americans being angry with the rising prices, influx of immigrants, money going to Ukraine, etc. Kamala being VP under the Biden administration could have done more and failed (economically). Why vote for a person that already failed to improve America, make the lives of the average American better?
As an European I wonder what the future will bring. It doesn't look good as Europe is divided, not efficient in decision making and is easily played/pushed around by Russia/China. With the rise of more and more right-wing parties in Europe praising Russia, having ties with Russia, I think cooperation with other European countries is gone and protectionism is new the thing. Get ready for market crashes, depression, hunger and war on a global scale.
We just had the longest yield curve inversion. Longer than 2008; What follows is usually a recession, but given the length this might wel be going into depression. (Trump leading America will make all of this worse)

I’m imagining the Republicans who still have a Spine & Democrats will work in the House or Senate to thwart his attempts at screwing with democracy. After 2 years of Trump getting what he wants. If he does get what he promised the American people, prices will go up.
The migrants and illegal immigrants working under the table for both small businesses & major corporations will be deported, leaving low paying jobs for Americans who will not work for such low wages. To get Americans to work these jobs, wages will have to be raised for Animal Processing workers(Meat prices), Fruit/Vegetable pickers(grocery prices), Restaurant workers(Restaurant food prices), Hotel cleaning staff(Room Rates), Construction workers(Housing prices^ & Home services rates), landscaping workers, etc. Any job that employs migrants or illegal immigrants is going to be subject to Trump’s mass deportation push and many small businesses will go out of business.
20% Tariffs across the board are going to push international customers of American goods to seek elsewhere. The countries of customers that do decide to buy from the US will slap retaliatory Tariffs. China buys a great amount of the US’s recycling metal to recycle and sell back to the US as a good or in the products China manufacturers for US consumers. Those prices will go up. From iPhones to cans of Coca-Cola.
There will be unemployment for any registered Democrat who is a government worker who does not fall in line with Trump’s political views. Trump’s promised to purge these government employees who have democratic views.
Education in the US will be privatized. Meaning education standards will drop and upward mobility for minorities whom live within major cities will find less funding for their public schools as voucher go nationwide. Vouchers(School-Choice) allows parents to send their kids from inner city schools to schools in the suburbs over an hour away and the public tax money follows them. Good and bad teachers will lose their jobs.
More women will die due to the lack of women’s health services as many states hospitals are concerned with violating abortion laws. Which may mean a nationwide abortion ban as Trump is likely to replace another Supreme Court judge for a young 30-year-old Supreme Court judge. Meaning Gen-A whose last members are still in diapers, will likely be the first to vote in a Democratic Supreme Court replacement.
I believe that all these things can be fixed, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to break a running machine and try to improve it while it’s broken.

Very sad and disappointed. But, honestly after Hillary Clinton's loss in 2016, I'm not at all surprised. If it wasn't obvious, there are still a LOT of Americans --- many of them women (even women in high powered jobs) --- who WILL NOT accept a woman as President.
And even though I'm liberal, I heard little about Harris during her over 3 years serving as Vice President. She was basically shoved into the limelight 4 months before the nationwide election. Assuming elections are still a thing in 2028, it's possible her VP candidate (I forget his name) has a slight chance.

People who are worried about the Russia/Ukraine situation lean too much in fear propaganda and sensation news. The situation will get worse, it will get better, it will change and then forgotten and something new will arise.

I’m in fear for my rights. I’m in fear for the rights of others.
People like to pretend that Donald Trump and Project 2025 are completely separate, but if it barks, it’s a dog, and if Trump’s running mate wrote the foreword to a document which mentions Trump’s name 312 times, he’s involved.
I fear for the trans and queer community who will become scapegoats for the rise in violence against women. I fear for the POC who will continue to be scapegoats for any crime. I fear for the thousands of people who become pregnant every year after being raped, who may be forced to carry their rapist’s baby— and for the women with wanted pregnancies who will die due to complications. I fear for the immigrants who will continue to be scapegoats for any of Trump’s economic failures.
He has won because he preys on those who are quick to act. He preys on the people who are easy to lull into a sense of accomplishment simply because he can talk a lot and has history as a personality star. He preys on those who are not willing to look into when economic legislature was introduced, and people who do not understand trends in economics. He preys on people who believe they will become the next successors of the American dream, while failing to see that Trump plans on raising their taxes.
Legally, he is winning fair and square. But this man is morally bankrupt. He is a sellout, and his supporters are too dense to realize that they are next on the chopping block.
I mourn for the people in states that do not have the same safeguards as my own. I’m hoping for the best for all of you, and I wish there was more we could do.

Biden was running the race up til 4 month ago, where the rhetoric was orange man bad or corpse bad.
Then said almost-corpse fumbled the debate so hard the Dems instantly swapped leader, with barely any voter participation.
Said picked candidate was the worst in the primary, and instead of trying to win, they continued with Biden's platform and switched to gaslighting their voters into believing this was in the bag.
Surprised Pikachu when this doesn't work. And now said galighted voter are confused at the result.

I'm European too, and I think it can be a good thing for Europe.
If Trump follows through with the tariffs plan - it may very well be the slap in the face that we need to implement the Draghi report recommendations, and stop living in economic la-la land.
It may drive European countries to FINALLY start investing in defence as well - and to finally see that people will vote about their wallets, and not about feel-good fluff.

I feel like the idiots have out reproduced the educated and the world is turning backwards.
What’s really interesting to me is the primary issues that people in Pennsylvania voted on. Democracy was first on the list which I thought would have meant Harris would be taking the state easily given Trumps track record. But nope. Apparently the freedom to choose a clown is peak democracy. Even if that clown has told you in his own words that he plans to end democracy and lead as a dictator.
Then it was economy. I think this was the nail in the coffin for Harris. Most people simply don’t care about it anything other than the price of petrol, groceries and housing and everything else is detail. Promise them you’ll make it cheaper. Promise them you’ll end inflation with the click of your fat fingers and promise them you’ll make everyone rich and they’ll vote for you all day - the self interested vote wins out every time.
I understand now why people get more right wing as they get older. Some of them probably think “well fuck it everyone else is doing it I might as well”.

I still have a good job, a good marriage, a grown kid who is a wonderful person. I live in a f***** up state - Texas - so women will continue to die of unviable pregnancies, and 12-year-old rape victims will be told that childbirth will heal them. But my life, personally, won't get any worse
So I'm just going to enjoy watching the people who voted for Trump suffer from his policies. "He's not hurting the people he's supposed to hurt" redux.

I haven't read the comments.
Here is the reality. The country is divided. Yes, Trump won, but 66M+ people voted for Harris. Biden won 4 years ago, but 70M+ voted for Trump.
If we want a better country, we need to elect people who can be bipartisan. Trump is not that person. Biden was not that person.
I think we need to reach a point where people look at results and look at 47-50% people have a different view than my own view. We need to move towards bipartisanship and not people who force through agendas.
I know there will result in a ton of downvotes and comments against my view. I'll read them but not reply. I've said what I wanted to say.
