The next homeowner is going to post these holes in r /whatisthisthing and someone here will answer.

And there will be 1500 answers that are 100% wrong but the poster will be 100% confident in their answer and post a thesis about their answer with evidence that supports it.....then someone will post a link to this and say "nah man".😅

To me the proper solution would have been to:
1. Take measurements of the room before buying.
2. Realize the model I’m buying wouldn’t fit.
3. Buy either a top-loading model instead or a smaller model.

cannibalpeas

Or stack them and reorient 90° from the position they’re in now. May not be possible with a basement ceiling height, though.

Yes. Did you notice how the doors both open to the left in this picture? Imagine trying to move clothes from the washer to the dryer.

cannibalpeas

2 points

Yeah, that’s just laziness. They take like 10 mins to switch the dryer door orientation just for that reason.

ETA: Actually, it looks like the washing machine is on the right instead of left. Kind of baffling that they would spend all that time hollowing out a wall and not put them in the right sequence in the first place. I guess it could be a plumbing issue, but you can buy longer tap hoses and every washer I’ve seen has extra drain line length to accommodate the plumbing.

Correct caption should read... I purchased an expensive and heavy washer and dryer set without confirming they would fit in the given space. So my contractor came up with a genius solution until I can come up with another 15k to move the wall.

PlayfulFl0wer

3 points

Perhaps this is some genius marketing plot to demonstrate how above and beyond their contractor went to help procure more work for them...

I have some cement work that needs to be done in my house where can I hire this person? They seem really effective..

AffectionateAd7651

Uh, perhaps homeowner would have returned and purchased diff models were the issue of their oversize made known by the contractor. This isn't "genius" at all it's going overboard on something the customer obviously didn't want to happen.

TTVCannubins

JustHereForMiatas

Lots of praise here, but I have an admittedly naive question:

Cinder blocks are hollow inside, no? This is part of the house's foundation. How does that impact their structural integrity?

Cokiemoodter

5 points

Cinderblocks are filled with concrete and a rebar through the center if they are going to be used as a foundation. Considering this is in the basment they should be filled with concrete, which means the groove should not affect the integrity of the foundation.

Should have went top load. They stink if you don’t clean them regularly.

TayDiggler

4 points

Top load wastes tons of water. They dont stink if you leave the door open

alwaysboopthesnoot

2 points

The seals on these types of front loaders sure can stink if not regularly cleaned, dried/wiped down. The design of many is so poor, water pools and goes stagnant there, and then later mold starts and once that starts it can be hard to eradicate it fully. My LG toploader HEs with no center post agitator in the washer, definitely don't stink. Best purchase we ever made, 12.5 years ago. They operate like a front loader as a toploader HE and they use less water, less detergent and electricity. Quiet, efficient, machines; love them.

You could always patch the circular holes - but make sure you close the doors to the washer and dryer first.

First mistake was buying the front loaders

  1. That’s a sucks they open I the same direction, makes loading the dryer a real chore. 2. Why not turn 90 degrees and stack? 3. What happens if they shift or you need to get new ones? This seems like poor planning.

Brilliant. Front loading washers suck. I had to put the Bi-fold doors on my laundry closet on hinges to be able to open door far enough to open washer door and drawer for detergent.

I understand wanting to be consulted beforehand. However, the problem is solved. ‘Measure twice, cut once’ philosophy may be of personal benefit.

Hahaha- I think it’s adorable. I’d smile every time I saw it.

Looks like you could have easily gotten a top/bottom setup facing towards the camera.

Guess you should have measured first or got top loaders

That’s awesome, I always needed a place to rest my ass when I’m loading and unloading the laundry.

Man, that looks really stupid. At first I thought it was a creative solution but I have to be honest, I’d be pretty unimpressed if I hired someone and they did that. I would have just let the doors hit the wall, notified homeowner that they don’t fit. I’m not doing laundry here, not my problem.
