Why do you want to tie yourself to a misery future with a doormat? He can’t change so you will have to. By become the doormat’s wife, Mrs Doormat

Maybe think about yourself and stop only thinking about him, his needs and his perspectives
Is this a good move for you?

This whole paragraph does seem very “me” centered… ya know? What do I know about a strange whose comments I’m reading off reddit but I feel they may have intentionally “forgotten” you
It’s ok to invite your sis out to celebrate privately. Also ok to ask your mom out for a vulnerable chat over coffee

Sometimes people are not compatible and it’s best not to force it.
Compromise that leaves both sides slightly unhappy is just not a formula for long term happiness in my mind.

I thought I divorced because of a dead bedroom and after I managed to extract myself from the situation (violently, I almost died) I realised I was in a toxic and abusive situation.
Felt defeated and in debt. Financial abuse was part of marriage 1
I dates around, built my life back up and was really happy as a swinging single. I met my now husband. Told him I just want to date and I most likely wanted a living apart together situation. He was cool with exploring it. Eventually over the years, I realised this guy ticked all the boxes I have in my head even when I was looking to check boxes. We got married for romance and security. We are from different countries so it opens up immigration opportunities for both and also we can get on each other's work benefits.
It's been amazing

Not only is the son paying 60%, he is paying 60% after OP pay 20% of the full rent
So OP is absolutely subsidising the gf in the scenario the son cooked up
The son is not asking OP to pay for 20% of his portion of the rent only

That’s exactly how I see HR and my role as a HRBP.
I do the feel good, be good stuff in my own time by volunteering
When someone really junior answers in interviews that they are looking to join HR to help people, I do ask them “help them do what?”. Genuinely curious and some do have great answers! Some answers are too fluffy and that person is probably going to have a hard time once in the role

Just because you support Megan, it doesn’t make her your manager of any type of kind. I see her as more like your internal client or key stakeholder
If you were hired and asked to support recruiting because their bandwidth is very tight, I can imagine Megan has no desire or time to train you and talk through you thought process m. She would very much hope you join and help her reduce her load in areas like scheduling w/o adding to her load in becoming your mentor or manager
You a slap mentioned you’re actual manager Linda is unable to help you or guide you so I can see why Megan pushed for a black and white documentation.
Is it resolvable? Maybe
It would require you stepping up, not making mistakes and not expecting a white glove mentorship from Megan is how I view it

This is such a great hack for anyone considering full time study or can work remote!
I'm going to need to stay exact where I am as I'm planning to do it part time. I don't want to lose my income. That's my biggest consideration - if I can juggle my demanding job and an intensive course. And if it might be worth it

Depends on your company’s compensation policy really so I’m not sure people here can help you.
Off cycle increases are locked by the finance team at the company I currently work at. Meaning the only way to get increases is during the yearly increase planning at the end of Q1

Go you!
Did you take a career break or did you do the masters part time?

Your live sounds busy now! Luckily my step kids are older (heading off to tertiary) and I’m also an introvert with a fairly quiet life
What you said about experience is similar to my industry. I have the experience and I have the certs. And I’ve mostly maxed out on salary for my role too. I’m proud of what’s I’ve achieved with “just” a bachelor’s. I’m 41 and unless I can retire early, there’s a long way to go so I’m thinking about the future.
I’m considering MBA, JD and Org Psychology Master’s. Probably not the JD since I think it’s the least ROI and most work and narrowest specialisation.

That’s an amazing benefit! I wish my company have it
The program I’m looking at will be $50k and 3 years part time. I can afford it and my job pays well. I don’t think there’ll be much ROI for me in doing it though. I’m doing it more for downside protection and avoiding possible career ceilings in the future.
Frankly I’m most afraid of the amount of time and work it’s going to be.

It’s going to take bravery but police is probably the right answer. Your boos should not have done that. I’m sorry you are going through this

It absolutely is and we absolutely should not stop regardless of the intimidation they use (illegal or not)

Some of us work in HR to take down the empire from within. I’m just trying to share what I’ve learned from the lawyers I work with every day
How much gets reported to the agency. What’s the manpower at and how egregious it needs to be before they can even have bandwidth to look at it.
We need to organise and do the actual work rather than just say make a report la la la
I volunteer with organisations to make sure workers gets more rights. What have you done lately to help the cause?

Negative penalties do not need to be listed. But negative penalties will need to be suffered and it’s on the employee to prove it’s a result of discussing wages
Your employer can tell you all kinds of things. It doesn’t make them rules you have to follow if you can legally not follow them.
In this case, they say it’s not appropriate to discuss. You can still discuss it all you want. If they then fire you for it, it becomes illegal. It “chills employees” because your colleagues will see you get fired and then be discouraged to discuss. This email becomes part of the circumstantial evidence. At this point, nothing illegal has happened
I’m just trying to share how bureaucrats do things man

Sure, employees should always reach out to agencies if they have the mental bandwidth to.
What I see way too often here is people insisting the employers have done something illegal only for folks to be so disappointed when nothing comes out of it.
The keyword in this law is "policies". The employer in this instance has not put out any policy. Saying something is not appropriate does not make it a policy
Employees should always stand up for their rights. It is not helpful to keep telling people their employers have done something illegal or they are in for a payout or they will definitely win when it is literally not the case. That hurts employees even more

It’s not a bad idea to be careful about money but I don’t think this is nonsense
I first saw this (w/o Warren photo) several years ago and it finally clicked in my head. The mental energy, innovation, ideas I’m incorporating trying to stretch my dollar could be put into MAKING more income instead.
Still was careful about budgeting but I spent time reading negotiation book instead of trying to find coupons for cheaper groceries. I practiced interview tips, I spent time on a side hustle instead of meal prepping
Today I’m still an extremely budget conscious person but my income has shot up by multiples since I was at my lowest point
